gotmos (11), New York, USA Jul 30, 2006 Poured from a bottle a beautiful clear golden yellow color with very little white head that disappeared in a few seconds. It has a very strong and appetizing aroma of malty candy, fruit, citrus and a bit vegetables. Flavor is very rich with great texture. Tastes deliciously sweet and nutty. Finish endures for a while with a nice light nutty aftertaste. Drinking it warms you up but the alcohol is hidden well for me anyway, a truly delicious treat. kook (2034), Perth, Western Australia, Australia Jul 28, 2006 Bottle (Utobeer): Slightly hazy golden with a short white head. Sweet, malty caramel dominates. Can ba bit cloying. Alcohol burn in the finish. Drinkable, but only just. nick76 (2636), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 11, 2006 The aroma has caramel malt, light fruits, and alcohol. The appearance is light amber - gold with a small head. The flavor is strong and sweet with lots of alcohol and cane sugar. I think there is a little oak in there too. The finish is slightly malty with much warming. The alcohol taste is just to overwhelming to make this an enjoyable beer to have without a meal. I know that it does fit the style but I wish they could at least hide the alcohol a little since it’s 9.6% not 19.6%. I now know why it’s called the cognac of beers. EithCubes (2140), Indiana, USA Jul 9, 2006 Bottle. Clear amber pour with healthy carbonation and a lacing, but modest, creamy eggshell head. Sweet, very malty aroma with caramel, honey, and a hint of alcohol. There’s mild fruitiness, too, grape and peach and apple. Body is extremely full, alcoholic, syrupy, thick thick thick. Warming reconciliation after an intitially crisp attack. Definite kick to the teeth. Flavor is of very sweet caramel with tons of malt. Rich and complex. Aftertaste is long and luxurious. Slight terminal bitterness, dry end...strange considering this was approaching cloying. Definitely a sipper. Like wrapping yourself in a big warm blanket of alcohol. KnutAlbert (3111), Oslo, Norway Jun 12, 2006 Bottle, bought in Austria. An overrated beer. Stong smell and taste of alcohol. Not the malty strength or hoppy floweriness to carry the alcohol. Nasty bitter finish. Zoso137 (52), Springfield, Missouri, USA Jun 6, 2006 this brew made me feel like i had been hit in the arm with one of those nerf bats, but it was a really hard hit. Sregnar35 (729), Rotterdam, New York, USA Jun 4, 2006 On tap at Mahars. Pours with no head, and a muddy blonde color. Aroma is sweet and tangy. Flavor is very sweet, some accents of spice from the hops too, has a bit of a syrupy feel but not overwhelmingly so. eaglefan538 (2355), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Jun 3, 2006 I went into this expecting German purity, but I guess Austria spices up their beers. This one poured the average golden amber color of a lager with a basic head that didn’t last long. The aroma was strong alcohol with some spices. The flavor was rich with the alcohol being too dominant, but spices, orange, and a caramel malt coming through. If the alcohol wasn’t so sharp, this may have fooled me for a Belgian. Mouthfeel was mildly carbonated with a moderate to heavy body. Enjoyable but sorta "sharp" all the way around.
