On tap at Mahars. Pours with no head, and a muddy blonde color. Aroma is sweet and tangy. Flavor is very sweet, some accents of spice from the hops too, has a bit of a syrupy feel but not overwhelmingly so.

I went into this expecting German purity, but I guess Austria spices up their beers. This one poured the average golden amber color of a lager with a basic head that didn’t last long. The aroma was strong alcohol with some spices. The flavor was rich with the alcohol being too dominant, but spices, orange, and a caramel malt coming through. If the alcohol wasn’t so sharp, this may have fooled me for a Belgian. Mouthfeel was mildly carbonated with a moderate to heavy body. Enjoyable but sorta "sharp" all the way around.

11.2 oz bottle. Darl yellowy pour, thin white head. Nose is nutty biscuit, somewhat sweet smelling. Flavor is rather sweet, a touch of walnut, and buttery biscuit. Alcohol is absolutely transparent. Body is slippery, a touch of oily thickness. Very pleasant!

Nice orange color, head is thin but sparkles beautifully. Aroma is dominated by ... cloudberry jam! Nice beginning as this jam is one of a very few memorable foods from Scandinavia. Brandy notes are quite distinct too. The flavor is rich, mostly of candied orange peel but also some chocolate. Thick and sticky in the mouth, persistent bitter-sweet aftertaste, well balanced. Worth trying.

Pretty well-aged Amber coloured, good off-white head. Very oxydized nose, nutty (walnut, hazelnut), and Marsala notes, old wood. Oxydized taste as well, quite sweet, nutty, bit smoky, old brandy or whiskey, or specifically brandy or Vermouth sauce. Very slick, very well-bodied, alcoholburn. Despite its ABV, this one has suffered from age. The patrons could not tell me its exact age, must be between 10-15 years.

From a 11.2 oz. embossed slender long neck brown bottle with no bottled/freshness date. Made a good appearance, poured a clear golden hued orange with a small frothy, foamy white head that settled into a thin bubbly lacing, good carbonation at first, but moderate carbonation overall. Had a nice spicy and tropical fruity nose with whiffs of, yes, cognac-like alcohol. A smooth, warming and syrupy medium bodied mouth feel, good sipping drinkability. The mouth feel overall is like a fine brandy or cognac. Mildly spicy and a light tropical fruitiness taste, very malty, a gentle Noble hop bitterness towards the end, a cognac-like alcohol warmth in the palate, I find it to be subtle, and a fruit malty finish with a little sourness. I enjoyed this doppelbock from Eggenberg, different, but tasty and balanced, a good sipper.

(Bottle BBE 04/2008) Herbal hoppy, fruity, slightly alcoholic aroma with a hint of caramel. Golden colour, clear and very small, white, more or less fully diminishing head. Sweet, herbal, citrus fruity and spicy (slightly anise) flavour. Sticky, alcoholic (warming), softly carbonated and full-bodied palate. Excellent brew but a bit too alcoholic! 16/04/07 (original rating was 6/3/6/4/13)
