Strong lager; lagered for 9 months then filtered and force-carbonated.
"Full-bodied with a creamy flavour and noble hop flavours.
Urbock 23° has on occasion been called the 'Cognac of beers'."

Strong slightly floral and slightly sweet aroma, kind of sticky sweet start, which quickly fades to a dry bitter finish, very warming brew, also a bit of a whiskey like character, lots of body and flavour.

Aroma is of caramel, liquorice and raison with some alcohol presence. Taste is a fruity mouth feel with some hints of belgian sugar. Finish has an alcohol bite but not as bad as you’d think. Clear light gold body with a thin pearl head.

0.33l bottle. A clear orange color with a short-lived white head. Sweet and fruity aroma of cherry, apricot, candid fruit. Taste is similar candid fruit, melon and apricot and a lot of raw alcohol, especially in the aftertaste. Low carbonation and a bit oily mouthfeel. Not really my style of a beer.

surprisingly pale golden colour, minimal white head, which disappears quickly and fully - in the light of the high ABV, it is acceptable; aroma of malts, apple, some peach, maybe hints of raisin as well, grass and alcoholic notes; in contrast with the aroma, the taste is quite one dimensional: malty sweetness and alcohol, and nothing else;this beer has a good potential to be a good beer, just the taste should be as complex as the aroma is.

33cl bottle served in Urbock 23 glass. Pours a medium straw colour with a small amount of white head and little carbonation. Sweet taste with a creamy mouthfeel. Tastes pretty much the ABV it is - very much a sipper - but I wouldn’t suggest a likeness to Cognac (I think that is an attempt at marketing). Hard to come by but will sample whenever possible. Quite enjoyable but very much in the shadow of the Samichlaus offering from the same brewery.

An 11,2 oz bottle from Legacy Liquor in Vancouver. Now, this is different! The label lists it as a "pale double bock", and pale it surely is. It’s about the color of a pale lager, with a smidgeon of white head. Can’t pick up much on the nose, but as other members have noted, it tastes a bit like a sweet, not so hoppy barleywine. It occurred to me that this might be my first review of an Austrian beer. Weird in concept, but eminently drinkable. 3.4.

A golden pour with a creamy head. Aroma has a strong fruit smell. Tastes of light fruit and alcohol. A bitter alcohol finish.

Pours a deep golden color with good clarity and fat creamy off white head that stays and stays. Nose is strong with malt richness and depth. Like ribbons of scent from malt but nothing burnt or roasted. Just sweet. No hops on the nose but a nice light fruitiness. Sheeting lace that slides back into the ring and alcohol legs. Some grape like sweetness. A bit of sweet chocolate comes forward shyly as it warms. The fruit on the nose is a mere grapey sweetness. Light and bright. Taste is heavenly delight. Rich sweet malt unfolds on the palate. Light chocolate, clean tastes and a grape like sweetness that includes a bit of sweet raisin type depth. Toasty but nothing burnt. No hop flavor until the very end where it finishes with a timid bitter and a little more of that chocolate to linger in the aftertaste. Medium full body, smooth and wonderful.
