Cornfield (4892), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA Oct 13, 2004 Updated: Jun 27, 2006This pours a very clear, very light brown color with little lasting head. It’s got a very sweet malty aroma, perhaps with hints of light fruit. A very creamy mouthfeel, smooth caramel maltiness. The hops come through lightly in the finish. Very little alcohol presence, but a nice warming drink.

jimhilt (1664), Bow, New Hampshire, USA Oct 8, 2004 Pours a white, one finger-head that goes quickly leaving no lace. Clear bright amber color. Light carbonation. Medium bodied. Nose is malty. Starts smooth and sweet, the alcohol is right up front, finishes with a little bitterness and an alcohol aftertaste. $3.19 for a 330ml bottle from Liquor Barn Lexington, KY. jaymobrown (1343), Chicago, Illinois, USA Oct 7, 2004 Light apple juice color. Gritty earth nose. Sweet, malt, dog biscuit flavors. Slight twinge of alcohol. maeib (4677), Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, England Oct 4, 2004 Bottled - St Albans Beer Festival. A light golden coloured lager with a lovely thick creamy alcoholic aroma. The taste is also thick, sweet alcoholic and warming. There is lots of banana tastes. The palate is really very good. Joeh (1908), Buckinghamshire, England Oct 2, 2004 Bottled @ the Saturday session, St Albans Beer Festival 2004. Beer #16. Sweet malt and alcohol. Very nice. Doggythedog (1541), Split, Croatia Sep 28, 2004 Don’t know really what to say, like all Castle Eggenberg beers available here, it’s damn expensive (a little less than 3 Euro for this one), and I really don’t know if it was worth it. It’s quite strong, both alcohol and flavor wise, with a pretty golden colour and a small white head. The flavor reveals... not much, lots of malt, some fruity hints, and of course, the alcohol, and isn’t very enjoyable. Overall, it seems it’s pretty bland for a doppelbock. Maybe another bottle will reveal more for me, but because of the price, I won’t be buying more soon. piwodevo (53), chicago, Illinois, USA Sep 22, 2004 Updated: Oct 1, 2004Open this bottle and the aroma immediately tells you this is a serious beer, not to be trifled with. It pours nearly flat (it’s vintage 2002) with a short white head that quickly dissipates and has a surprisingly light, golden brown color. The aroma is of sweet caramel-y malt, and the first sip is a smooth cascade of mild malt, honey, and maybe vanilla flavors, but there’s no alcohol burn....undoubtedly because the aging of the bottle has softened this monster around the edges. Hops are barely noticeable; this beer relies on a double dose of malt for most of its character. A strong bock indeed, but tempered with age. Dorwart (1807), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA Sep 12, 2004 I really expected a darker and thicker beer than this. Thin, white head with good carbonation. Reforms nice upon swirling. Slightly fruity aroma with some malts but not alot. Kind of bland. Color is a medium gold. Flavor is smooth but bland also. Strong alcohol kick with a bit of fruit. This beer is starting to grow on me the more I drink. Must be the alcohol. Finish is clean and has a nice warming from the alcohol. All around a somewhat bland beer but still a decent drink.
