Jeppe (2638), Ølbutikken, Denmark Sep 2, 2004 Pours an airy off-white head on a clear golden body. Strong and sweet alcoholic and fruity aroma with tones of malt. Flavor is also very heavy sweet and somewhat cloying. Malt, fruit, citrus and hop. Quite harsh and alcoholic in the finish. Not really a beer for me, it is way too heavy and harsh and not very complex at all. Is it really a doppelbock? IndianaRed (1553), Boise, Idaho, USA Aug 31, 2004 Bottle Pours a crystal clear light golden with a nice fluffy off-white head, settling to leave spotty course lacing. Aroma is of sweet malt, vanilla, butterscotch and lightly toased grain. Flavor is malty and quite sweet. The ABV is not hidden very well, but is not unpleasant. Feel is quite smooth and heavy, and the finish is slightly hopy/bitter but seems balanced. Interesting. y0cola (360), fremont, California, USA Aug 20, 2004 ugly pale golden color. huge head; immediate dissipation of that mothertrucker. immediate burn in throat from tha alky. tingles the tongue. flavor really has nothing but alcohol, though not too strong. gsteph (263), knoxville, Tennessee, USA Aug 17, 2004 Not very similar to any doppelbocks’ I’ve had. Nice orangey amber color with thin white head that fizzles away quickly. Fruity, malty aroma that is engorged with alcohol. Flavor is sweet and spicy with apples, pears and a little vanilla. Palate is OK but not overly tasty. Very creamy though. Similar to other Eggenberg brew’s in that it is very sweet. OK sipper but no "cognac" here. presario (2953), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Aug 15, 2004 Light gold. Light head around the edge. Strong alcohol aroma. Lightly sweet delicious malt. Alcohol edge. Awesome. chriso (4684), London, Greater London, England Aug 15, 2004 Ginger/orange colour. Aroma of sweet malt and fruit, with candy sugar and very evident volatile alcohol. Sweet initial mouthfeel, with burnt treacle, molasses, toffee and a lot of spicy hop bitterness coming through on the finish. The alcohol is rather intrusive on the finish. It’s certainly warming - more like burning, with a very pronounced acidic alcohol aftertaste. The mouthfeel is a touch sticky. Has a rather Belgian feel to it. A bit of a beast, but pretty good. 330ml bottle from beersofeurope.co.uk. BBE 31 July 2004.
