Ungstrup (11692), Frederiksberg, Denmark Feb 1, 2004 The aroma is very sweet with notes of caramel, alcohol, and peach. The color is light amber and it has a bubbly beige head, though fast disappearing. The flavor is very sweet malty caramel with notes of peaches and mango. The texture is sticky in the mouth. A nice "barley wine". Papsoe (11062), Frederiksberg, Denmark Apr 26, 2005 Updated: Jun 14, 2005(Bottle 33 cl) Recently best known for having taking over production of world classic "Samiclaus" - but in general known for it’s strong bocks. Extremely high gravity with 23 degrees plato makes this a difficult one to drink. Comes close to requiring cutlery. Not much darker than an ordinary pils, no head whatsoever. Extremely full-bodied and sweet. Hard to drink, I recommend chewing. 040302 omhper (10950), Stockholm, Sweden Feb 4, 2002 Updated: Mar 10, 2003Re-rate bottled. Pours thick and golden and forms a decent, but short lived head. Aroma of honey and oak. Full bodied, very malty, chewy. Loads of toffee, and the alcohol adds to the richness of the flavour.
The low hop rate, in addition to the complex malt flavour makes this beer really unique. The cognac of beers is actually a good description.
yespr (7785), Copenhagen O, Denmark Feb 18, 2007 33 cL bottle. Pours golden with almost no head. Fruity apple aroma. Mouthfeel is oily, round and thick. Taste is corn and fruit. Has alcohol-metalic aftertaste. Finish is short and fruity-sour. Fruity barley wine. Oakes (7032), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Nov 22, 2000 Heady, whiskeyish aroma. Rather firm and crisp for a doppelbock. A unique beer, and one any serious drinker needs to seek out.
