| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Mar 10, 2008 331ml bottle from LCBO- Decants sparkling gold/with lime green accents and pours a fizzy white head. The nose is heavy on the grains, and is accompanied by lemon peel, some licorice, and some dank, wet hay. This beer shows flavours of sweet grain, lemon zest, vanilla pudding, sweet, zesty malts, with good spice. FInishes a bit too sweet for my taste (reminds me of pineau de charentes), with a pineapple fruit zing. It’s good, but only in small doses. kiefdog (1655), Tampa, Florida, USA

Pours a hazy golden amber color with a white, creamy one-finger white head that diminishes rapidly. Aroma is sweet malt, honey, caramel, spice. Strong phenol notes present. Flavor is bready, wheaty and doughy with notes of sweet malt, fresh hay and caramel. Medium-bodied with a slight syrupy texture. Slight sourness on finish. Styles (1653), Lincoln Park, Michigan, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 28, 2004 Don’t know really what to say, like all Castle Eggenberg beers available here, it’s damn expensive (a little less than 3 Euro for this one), and I really don’t know if it was worth it. It’s quite strong, both alcohol and flavor wise, with a pretty golden colour and a small white head. The flavor reveals... not much, lots of malt, some fruity hints, and of course, the alcohol, and isn’t very enjoyable. Overall, it seems it’s pretty bland for a doppelbock. Maybe another bottle will reveal more for me, but because of the price, I won’t be buying more soon. esjaygee (1600), Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA
| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | Mar 16, 2008 At Three cellars tasting. A bit too sticky and sweet, maybe I don’t like Doppelbocks as much as I thought I did. This one left a bitter finish and it just felt all wrong. TheBeerOrg (1595), Kentucky, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 20, 2007 Pours dark golden with orangish hues and a fully receding off-white head. Aroma of sweet bready malt, lager yeast, and increasing amounts of alcohol as the beer warms. Taste is sweet, chewy and malty, with high alcohol notes and low hoppiness to give the malt center stage. Mouthfeel is full to heavy bodied, slighty sticky with alcohol burn and lush carbonation. This bottle was still young by the standards of this beer. It needs time. Very cellerable. | 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Mar 17, 2006 Not my cup of tea, or maybe I drank it at the wrong time, sticky sweetness, with sour aftertaste, seemed infected, this could be, as I bought it in a Karstadt store, where the beer isn´t exacttly controlled. Will re-rate in the future.
