Golden colour with coarsish carbonation and a white head that left some lace on the side of the glass. The aroma is an interesting one with classic golden Germanic malts to the fore, some toffee and a bit of a signature ’there’s a fair amount of alcohol here John, I hope you haven’t got much planned for this afternoon’. I say that, but it could be easily overlooked. There’s also some dried orchard fruit aroma as well. Initially bubbly and then the full bodied juicy whack that also brings out caramel and toffee. It is unctuous without being over-sweet. The finish is one that gives a nod to highish alcohols and fruity esters that dries and leaves you with orange oil and mace.

Bottle brought back from Austria. Pours Clear Amber with a short lived White head. Sweet smelling with an odd savoury component. Smells vaguely like Chinese food. Flavour is thick butterscotch with plenty of hops. It’s got a clear and present alcohol to it but I’d have to say it works better than I imagined it would. This has been a bit of a shelf turd for me since I brought it home from Vienna over a year ago. It’s not bad but I don’t really ever want another one.

Ámbar. Madurada en barriles de roble. Aroma a alcohol y madera. Sabor a miel y malta. Poco equilibrio.

The foam is very thin, but persistent. The aroma is somewhat unusual for a bocks. It is neither malted or hoppy, but rather wood and vanilla characterize the aroma. It has also been stored in the brewery cellar for 9 months, and possibly some of the time in barrels. The taste is slightly malty with a little hint of vanilla. A moderate taste of alcohol is present, but is taken quickly by some fruit which is very difficult to categorize. Malt is also moderate and have a little touch of caramel. Hoppy bitterness is gentle, but present and long-lasting.

Aroma and flavour are strangely floral and peppery. Also sweet, syrupy, malty, warming. Not bad for a strong lager. Has plenty of complexity.

.33l pour from room-temp bottle into a goblet. Luminous orange and clear as day with a light, fizzy, and quickly-dissipating head. Beautiful color and clarity. Incredibly full bodied. Syrupy. Aromatic with a strong boozy and fruity nose. Some raisin and bitter herbs notes in there too. I am not a big fan of the taste, though. It ends with a bitter arugula bite. Raisin, alcohol, biscuit, yeast, and bitter fruit in the middle. An aggressive and technically-apt beer, but in the end not one I much enjoy drinking.
