Golden colour with coarsish carbonation and a white head that left some lace on the side of the glass. The aroma is an interesting one with classic golden Germanic malts to the fore, some toffee and a bit of a signature ’there’s a fair amount of alcohol here John, I hope you haven’t got much planned for this afternoon’. I say that, but it could be easily overlooked. There’s also some dried orchard fruit aroma as well. Initially bubbly and then the full bodied juicy whack that also brings out caramel and toffee. It is unctuous without being over-sweet. The finish is one that gives a nod to highish alcohols and fruity esters that dries and leaves you with orange oil and mace.

Bottle. Deep yellow with very small head. Aroma hay, sweet malts sugar, a bit cloying. Taste sweet malty, lots of alcohol, a bit cloying. A classical dobbelbock, but nothing extraordinary.

It pours golden with a pillow head. It is very clear. There is no lacing to speak of. The aroma is of toffee, honey, caramel, and oats. It has a creamy texture to it. There is a taste of honey, hops, and caramel with a definite alcohol finish.

Third or fourth beer on my Austrian trip that has had a metallic aroma upon the initial poor, this one fading with the beer warming slightly. Sweet aroma after this. Pretty beer to look at, little lacing/head retention. Honey taste is strong at first, nice vanilla notes as well. There is a little unwanted skunky and metallic taste that interferes with a lot of other good stuff that is going on! Long spicy tobacco-tasting finish.

Bottle in a field in the Czech Republic. Clear deep golden pour, thin white head. Aroma of fruity malts, grapes, plum, slightly spicy, sugary and with some alcohol. Flavor is very sweet, sugary and fruity with a full body and a smooth texture. Solid brew.

Bottle from backlog notes 07. Pours a clear dark golden color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have sweet caramel/toffee malts, honey, citrus, fruit, some earthy notes. Decent, probably won’t revisit this though.

Bottle, pours gold with a white head, has a sweet malt and honey aroma, taste is similar but with a little caramel and a noticeable alcohol kick, taste pretty much stays sweet, with very little bitterness, not bad

Mint egy jó öreg viszki, megbarikkolva az igaz. Testes és selymes, nameg aztán negédes.

Buckeyeboy brought this back from Austria... I am sure I have had it before, but am surprised to see no rating.... soooo, here it is. Pours a clear orange... no real lacing... nose is fruity malt extract, not nearly as clean as most doppelbocks.. sweet and very boozy. Flavor mirrors the aroma... sweet with something that reminds me of apricot.. cloying malt with no balance at all... one dimensional and not even remotely to my doppelbock liking anymore. Body is surprisingly not that thick, but the carbonation is lighter than it should be leading to a sorta clinging mouthfeel. Thanks Jeremy, but I remember this one being better.

330ml bottle brought back from Austria. Pours out crisp golden topped with a white ring of a head. Nose is sweet malts candy sugar and a nice grass. Taste is as the nose with lots of sweetness and a nice finish.
