3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Golden colour with coarsish carbonation and a white head that left some lace on the side of the glass. The aroma is an interesting one with classic golden Germanic malts to the fore, some toffee and a bit of a signature ’there’s a fair amount of alcohol here John, I hope you haven’t got much planned for this afternoon’. I say that, but it could be easily overlooked. There’s also some dried orchard fruit aroma as well. Initially bubbly and then the full bodied juicy whack that also brings out caramel and toffee. It is unctuous without being over-sweet. The finish is one that gives a nod to highish alcohols and fruity esters that dries and leaves you with orange oil and mace.

First try from Austria. The aroma is soft, the after taste got punch as it is a double bock. I prefer Austrian chocolate better!

Aroma fantástico. Gosto forte e cremoso. Faz juz a descrição que diz lúpulos nobres. Gosto duradouro na boca. Amargor do lúpulo e amargor do alto teor alcoólico bem perceptíveis. Forte e gostosa!

BB12/2014 Shared by 3, 11/14. Icing sugar, vanilla and honey variations of heller Doppelbock malt concentrate in aroma merge into a broader range of plum wine, apple compote, honey malts, cereal sake. Herbal hops at the fringes for contour to this unctuous partouze. Low-carbed, well-rounded and mostly balanced despite its heavy abv wallop. Unlike many traditional malt-cooked clobbers like this with no alleviating sugar-aided Belgian yeast profile, quite delicate and enjoyable.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Provdatum okänt. Fruktiga malttoner dominerar aromen, utan rostade inslag.

Light amber color, short white head with no lacing. Nothing in particular on the nose.
Aroma is, wow, very liquory. thick malts with syrup, honey and brandy/rum. Doughy yeast, slight fruity esters. Thin hops profile, seems noble hops indeed but undercover. Alcohol is burning, very warming.
Taste is sweetish then ends up in a quite strong bitterness, a bit metallic but mostly alcohol-related. Finish is sadly short, spicy, with fuel notes. Body is full, ultra thick texture, heavy, creamy texture, sticky, low carbonation.
Perfect for winter. The cognac of beers? Hum, really don’t know as rarely i end up to such powerful lagers at the edge of barley malt neither i know something about cognacs, but i’d say it fits well.

courtesy of bartlebier, thank you! also shared with Bierle and Hugi. Aromas of malt, melasse and a hint of acacia honey, more honey notes in the taste, also some crème brulée.

Tasted with bastarda and bartlebier. Thanks to the latter for providing this beer.
Light-orange, clear with a small head. Aroma of Brezel, apple, quince and honey. Sweet and malty, honey-flavour, baked apple and a low bitterness. Full body, velvety, long-lasting taste.

UPDATED: DEC 15, 2014 330ml bottle served in a chalice.
My first Austrian beer review.
A: Nice bottle art. Pours a clear golden color forming a medium, bubbled and creamy white head. Good retention with some lingering lacings left
S: Sweet and malty in the nose. Strong notes of sweet grains. Dark fruits. Bready yeasts and flowery hops. A bit booze in the end
T: Quite sweet and malty upfront. Strong notes of caramel malts. Some notes of caramel and dark fruits. A bit metallic in the end. You can feel some alcohol nevertheless it’s well hidden. In overall, a quite balanced bittersweet taste
M: Full and bit molasses body. Medium to low carbonation. Malty bittersweetness in the aftertaste
O: Good drinkability despite the high ABV. I was expecting much less from this beer, good surprise
