Appearance is clear gold, a sort of maple leaf turned early. Bottle hissed with minor carbonation and indeed bubbles are few but steady, leading only to a thin white halo around the top of the glass. The smell is of alcohol, malt, and sweet iced tea with mint. Mouth-feel is dense, like caramel syrup. But the carbonation regains life on the tongue, forcing any excessive sweetness away from the tongue and bringing forth a mellow bitterness. This is a complex taste that lingers and coats the back of the throat, warming yourself as it flows down. Internally this is a lively beverage that awakens the intestines, perhaps best suitable as a digestive following a heavy, fall meal. Me thinks it would serve well after dark meat, like lamb or veal. As the temperature drops the malty sweetness becomes more dominant; notice the sugar coat on the lips. Served in a Samichlaus tulip.

Golden colour with small head. Malty aroma with metallic hint. Very sweet with little bitterness and some alcohol warm at the end.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12 oz bottle into a tulip glass. The label lists the abv at 9.6%. Appearance: It has a deep amber color with a slight haze and some big bits of sediment floating around inside. From the pour I got very thin and very quick fading head. This leaves the beer completely uncovered and there is absolutely no lacing. Smell: The aroma is big, full and sweet. There are loads of sweet candy like notes of apples, pears, figs and plums inside of a fruitcake like maltiness. Taste / Palate: All the sweet notes from the aroma come though in the flavor plus a note of cherry almond ring coffee cake and the mellow glow of a warming 9.6% abv. The feel is slick and smooth as there is very little carbonation. It’s like drinking liquid candy.

I'm pretty sure that the bottle I had was messed up as the taste and aroma was ethanol and nothing else.

330 ml bottle. Light sunrise orange, perfectly clear, with a small off white head (even with a very aggressive pour), which dissipated very quickly.Quite strong and pungent nose, definitely complex. Very fruity but pretty boozy as well. Some dark fruits and light spices presence, slightly herbal/balsamic, burnt caramel and toffee, brown sugar. perhaps a hint of meat/soy sauce in the background. Not as good as the aroma indicated, imho. Pretty one dimensional, again very boozy and sweet, sligtly astringent. Some wood/oak presence, rather slick and hard to drink. Dark fruits, caramel and alchool in the aftertaste. Soft to average carbonation, medium to fully body, oily texture. Definitely a sipper, but not a favourite.

Bottle from Billa in Austria Clear golden orange, minimal cream head Caramelized malts, wild honey, soft alcohol, dry plumbs, riped yellow fruit Metallic bitter aftertaste Biscuit, caramel, toffee, warming alcohol It’s a great peaty for this metallic bitter ending...but decrease when warmer

Bottle. Deep yellow with very small head. Aroma hay, sweet malts sugar, a bit cloying. Taste sweet malty, lots of alcohol, a bit cloying. A classical dobbelbock, but nothing extraordinary.

It pours golden with a pillow head. It is very clear. There is no lacing to speak of. The aroma is of toffee, honey, caramel, and oats. It has a creamy texture to it. There is a taste of honey, hops, and caramel with a definite alcohol finish.

Third or fourth beer on my Austrian trip that has had a metallic aroma upon the initial poor, this one fading with the beer warming slightly. Sweet aroma after this. Pretty beer to look at, little lacing/head retention. Honey taste is strong at first, nice vanilla notes as well. There is a little unwanted skunky and metallic taste that interferes with a lot of other good stuff that is going on! Long spicy tobacco-tasting finish.
