2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle best by Dec. 2015 consumed in Sept. 2014: Polished copper with deep golden highlights. Uneven, jagged-edged halo of foam. Lifeless and empty nose of metal and paper with hints of licorice, caramel-kissed nuts, hay and tea leaves. Seltzery, excessively gassy carbonation leaves a foamy residue on the tongue. Flabby and poorly defined malt precedes a spent tea leaf flavor and woody hop whispers. Some toast sits comfortably atop the damp hay placidness. Vague tobacco notes waver in and out of the pecan skin undertow, though most of the malt crispness is displaced by the prevalent flabbiness and sloppy residual cola-like sugars. Moderate peppery, herbal and fennel seed hop bite surges in the finish, though the limp malt combats much of this. A very generic and soulless zoiglbier plagued by unduly high levels of carbonation.
