MoritzF (8590) - Bochum, GERMANY - SEP 4, 2008
(bottle) Clear, chestnut-brown colour with a foamy off-white head of medium size. Slightly dusty and sweet roasty malty nose with a touch of caramel and cacao, plus notes of dried fruits. Sweet flavour, medium to full bodied with a medium carbonation. Moderately roasted malty taste; quite one-dimensional and a bit too far on the sweet side; finishes with a good length. All in all not world-shaking but still a smooth Operator (24.04.07).

Ernest (6354) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - JAN 23, 2008
Bottle (thanks Jonas!), Munich (BB Apr 07). Head is initially small, frothy, light brown, mostly diminishing. Body is dark brown. Aroma is moderately malty (caramel, toasted bread, nuts), lightly hoppy (flowers, herbs), with notes of plum and overripe banana. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium to full body, velvety/syrupy texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. Despite being many months past the BB date, this was still in remarkably good condition and didn’t show much if any evidence of its age. Not a strong contender, but a solid enough example.

Bottle - Deep chestnut body with a beige head; Soft warm nose, malty complex but not really existing, lacks cogency; Small but sharp carbonation and malty full in body doesnt fit to well in a body that is a bit lose; Long malty sugary sweet finish, somehow a bit to simple vulgar texture on a watery body, not to balanced and not well composed, but drinkable.

500ml vom Fass, shared with Finn. Clear and deep mahogany body under a low-level, tan head. Sweet, but vague smell of caramel chocolate. Taste is also of sweet chocolate offset by faint fruitiness and a marked alcohol touch towards the end (Biergarten at Antonius-Schwaige, Ingolstadt 23.06.2007).

Bottled, thanks jeverszeuge! Clear mahogany colour, rich but brief head. Aroma of bready malt, lingonberries and slivovic. Sweet and nicely bready with soft, deep malt character. Gentle and well balanced with notes of blueberries and spun sugar. Mild and warming.

Rastacouere (6137) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - JUN 3, 2007
Clear and very pretty mahogany colourtoppd by a small off-white head that clearly persists. Alcohol tinted nose offers expressive earth laden huge munich maltiness. Toasted, sugary notes completely overwhelm the neglectable bitterness in mouth. Emerging flavours of candied pear, red licorice and caramelized apples all make it an offering a bit too sweet for my liking, but its medium body that feels very lager-like and quite drinkable helps to settle that in place. A sweet one, but well structured and easy to like. Pretty good doppelbock.
