MoritzF (4019), Ruhrpott, Germany Sep 4, 2008 (bottle) Clear, chestnut-brown colour with a foamy off-white head of medium size. Slightly dusty and sweet roasty malty nose with a touch of caramel and cacao, plus notes of dried fruits. Sweet flavour, medium to full bodied with a medium carbonation. Moderately roasted malty taste; quite one-dimensional and a bit too far on the sweet side; finishes with a good length. All in all not world-shaking but still a smooth Operator (24.04.07).
Ernest (4285), Boulder, Colorado, USA Jan 23, 2008 Bottle (thanks Jonas!), Munich (BB Apr 07).
Head is initially small, frothy, light brown, mostly diminishing.
Body is dark brown.
Aroma is moderately malty (caramel, toasted bread, nuts), lightly hoppy (flowers, herbs), with notes of plum and overripe banana.
Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately bitter.
Medium to full body, velvety/syrupy texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic.
Despite being many months past the BB date, this was still in remarkably good condition and didn’t show much if any evidence of its age. Not a strong contender, but a solid enough example. henrikb (1161), Aarhus, Denmark Jan 22, 2008 Bottle - Deep chestnut body with a beige head; Soft warm nose, malty complex but not really existing, lacks cogency; Small but sharp carbonation and malty full in body doesnt fit to well in a body that is a bit lose; Long malty sugary sweet finish, somehow a bit to simple vulgar texture on a watery body, not to balanced and not well composed, but drinkable.
