Carefully managed barley fields from our homeland region, the Chiemgau, are the basis for this regional beer speciality! A mildly bright beer, brewed according to a special brewing prescription, and matured in the rock cellar.

Bottled, from Biershop Bayern. Clear pale golden, mid sized head. Fruity grassy nose. Mid sweet with medium body and clean, rounded mouthfeel. Fruity with grass and some sugar. Not the most harmonious example of the style.

500ml bottle bought at Great Food Hall in Pacific Place, Admiralty.

Pale golden honey colour; Three-quarter finger head and soapy white foam which fades in 40 seconds; Good sticky lacing with slow-moving small carbonation; Quite pungent aroma of malt, with strong floral, light sugar, bread, yeast, lemon and fairly strong grass; Close to medium sweet taste of light malt, with fairly strong barley grains, moderate molasses, floral, soggy bread, strong lemon, moderate bitter hops and quite sharp grass; Light body. Thin and slightly slick palate; Mouth feel is pretty typical Helles - light maltyness, light but fair body, strong barley grain and very notable floral. Sweetness is quite subdued compared to some other Helles. Breadyness is not that great but a good hoppy finish to round up. Okay… Hoppiness is lemon, quite strong floral and fair sharp grass in nose and taste. Close to moderate bitterness for an abrupt, low-astringent finish; Fairly dry after taste. Quite easy and floral hoppy to mouth.

Comments: By all means this is quite an easy Helles with a slightly Macro Pale-like lager nose and somewhat grainier than most Helles, but it does have some strong floral and les sweetness to boost, so it’s still a fair, blue collar Helles to enjoy for football matches. Okay enough.
