3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
On tap @ Brisbane German Club which is highly recommended when attending the Test cricket at GABA next door (especially when your only choice of beer inside the ground is 4X Gold at $7.20 a plastic schooner!). This one pours reddish-brown with medium off-white head. Plenty of caramel malt sweetness up front on the nose with soft fruity hops and a touch of burnt sugar. Taste is prominent sweet malts with a light fruity hop bitterness to the finish. Eminently sessionable with clean palate, lightish body and easy carbonation.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
On tap. Poured a burnished copper with a one-finger cream-coloured head. The aromas were some dark fruit (raisins mainly), caramel, cinnamon and a touch of smoke. The taste was dominated initially by malty caramel sweetness, but that washed away fairly quickly to a light bitterness followed by fruit at the end. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation and a lightly spicy aftertaste. Not bad.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Reddish-brown clear beer with a nice head leaving lacing on the glass. The aroma has diacetyl up front with some bready malts and saltiness. The taste is loafy malty, earthy and little licoricy. The mouthfeel is thin and the finish is pretty intense. This was my first altbier so I cannot really say how it compares to others, but it seemed a lot like a German dunkel lager with a twist.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Well - finally getting around to rating this one. Pours a medium brown with orange highlights and a tight light tan head. Smell is lightly roasted malt, some fruit and maybe some nuttiness. Taste is as it tastes ending a bit dry. Body is light and a bit oily with a tick below average carbonation. Not bad, though not up to the standards of the Düsseldorf altbiers.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours brown with a thin white head. Aromas of caramel, bread, lightly fruity. This follows through on the taste with more maltiness than fruit though. Very clean, dry, balanced finish. Not bad.
