DSG (997), Yuvalim, Israel Aug 8, 2008 (6/19/08) Draught at Sophie’n Eck in Berlin. Clear dark amber with a medium beige head. Aroma of toasted malt and light nutty hints. Sweetish malty flavor with some toasted bread, some caramel and a rather dry finish. Light-medium body, slightly watery. Not bad.
larsga (2447), Oslo, Norway Oct 22, 2008 Medium light brown head. Brown body with carbonation. Light malty roasty straw aroma, quite harmonic. Dry roasty caramelly taste with chocolatey notes. Clean, sharpish mouthfeel. Very dry. Harmonic, but a bit lacking in complexity. Dry roasty hoppy aftertaste. Quite nice, a bit boring. Bottle brown, 330 ml
Appearance: Pours amber to brown, clear body with a very mild carbonation and slightly beige, metallic, off - white, initially medium, decreasing to small but firm head, very nice lacing and head though small stays still as a small froth for a very long time.
Aroma: Slightly woody - nutty with accents of black tea tan, generally very gentle, non intensive and non sophisticated, gentle hoppy bitterness and saltyness with regular, undistinctive woody - malty background, rather simple.
Flavour: From the first sip it is easy to denote a simmilarity to a Brown Ale or Premium Bitter, nice woody - nutty touch with quite strong bitterness and tannins similar to a black tea, chewy malt and highly astringent palate with bready - grainy and toasty to slightly roasty notes of barley malt, carmelized malt but lacking in a herbal hoppy nose so characteristic for the initially mentioned English Beer styles of that top fermented profile. Still noble, decent and worth to have a try and sample. Finish duration is moderate to long, lightly ashy with noble hoppyness.
Palate: Body is medium, texture is dry, carbonation on palate is soft to moderate, finish feel is highly astringent and slightly chalky with mineral touch.
Ethereal (927), London, Greater London, England Aug 24, 2008 330ml bottle at the Auerbachs Keller, Leipzig, 20th August 2008. Coppery brown with a small white head. Quite light aroma of nutty malt. Starts sweet on the tongue and then drys out considerably. Ok palate and quite a strong aftertaste. cgreb (84), Marburg, Germany Aug 22, 2008 on tap - dark amber beer with beige-white head. Malty flavour. Aroma is malt but not sweet. Little bit of metal.
