2.5 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Not very hoppy for an imperial. Has a strong finish but the taste is odd, strong but not like a good Imperial.

2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
Deep dark brown and amber coloured body with no head at all to speak of and a thick layer of yeast at the top of the bottle and on the cap - very interesting and not like an Imperial IPA iíve ever seen before. Aroma of alcohol, pit fruits, caramel, yeast and bread - no hops at all to smell and more of a traditional ale than anything else. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong alcohol and pit fruit flavours with a lot of cardboardie malt at the back end with some raisins and caramel, along with a touch of toffee, but no hops at all, and no complexity at all. Aftertaste shows the slightest hint of bitterness, but it dies away quickly and the alcohol and light breadiness comes through. Overall, this one is just bad - no flavours, no complexity, no hops and definitely not worth buying nor bringing back home. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Merchantís in Dearborn, Michigan on 02-August-2013 for US$2.49 sampled at home in Washington on 12-October-2013 to celebrate Detroitís game 1 victory over the Red Sox in the 2013 ALCS.

2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
12 oz bottle. The pour is a dark dark amber, pretty much brown. About as anti-IPA as I can think of. There is a thin white head, no real lacing to be found. The aroma is strange. It's almost a cross between a brown and stout, somewhat like a Strong Ale. It's very sweet, with none of the fruitiness or pineyness that you'd expect. The taste is just as strange. There are a lot of conflicting notes that ate drowned out by the sweetness of this. No real hoppiness to be detected. There are many better Imperial IPAs out there than trying to struggle through this

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
12oz bottle. Poured a deep amber, almost brown color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of caramel, toffee, grains and toasty. Follow with some citrus. Sweeter.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Strange IPA. Drank after a Stoneís Ruination, so it feels incredibly mild. I wish I had this one first for a better impression. I am getting a sweet ending...caramel? Drinkable out of a bottle. Might rerank again if I ever find this and try it first. I am really liking it now though. Good beer, but doesnít feel like an IPA. If you go in knowing that, it is very enjoyable.

2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Too malty and sweet to be an IPA. Think more of American Strong. It tastes like an odd mix of ingredients with a lot of booze in the finish.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Not the best double IPA. It hides its gravity well, but the viscousness of the beer is off putting, as is the flavor which has far too much malty, candy, sweetness.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle. Very strong IPA -- large alcohol taste with sourness in the malt. Lots of off notes in this one. Light brown, tall tan head. Not recommended -- many other preferable options.

Thanks for the bottle, Steve! Murky reddish pour, fairly defeated-looking carbonation and a grainy sediment that screams homebrew. Sharp and soupy in the nose, a tough one-two punch to pull off. Tastes like a weak homebrew clone of aged Double Bastard. Not a fan.
