Daumen hoch.

Bottle from IxI Getränkemarkt in Frankfurt. The beer has got a deep dark brown colour with a steady low head and medium body. Aroma of malt and dark fruits. Taste of malt, roasted barley, plums, ripe fruits, dark bread and mild chocolate. Smooth to drink, enjoyed it.

Bottle is probably at least 3 years old. Very sweet, with oxidised malt, caramel, raisins and a little chocolate and roasted meat. Thick as promised by the style. Good but would need to try a fresher one for a proper review.

Reviewed on 19/12/14. Bottle, 500ml. A dark ruby beer with a small white head that fades away quickly and almost completely. Aroma is of alcohol, dried fruits and not much else. Taste is bitter with some carbonation and almost no astringency. I’m done with this German beers! They are definitely not my style.

500 ml bottle. #5819. BB 21/01/15. From a trade with Erzengel. Thanks Gabriel!
Clear dark reddish brown colour with a mid-size light tan head. Sweet malt, mild hops, sugary sweetness and some grainy notes in the aroma. The flavour is dry grain, sweet malt, sweet sugary, mild hoppy bitterness and mild alcohol notes. Rather nice. Doppelbocks ain’t my religion.

Bottle, 500ml. Deep ruby with a foamy tan head. Sweet aroma of dried fruit, sour cherries, molasses and alcohol. Heavy and robust with moderate carbonation. Intense caramel sweetness with a heavy complexity and robust bitter and alcohol finish. Heavy and warming, though perhaps one-dimensional.

50cl bottle bb11/2014. Translucent, watery redbrown pour, nice off-white head. Virtually aromaless, some roasted chestnut maybe. Dimension of sweetbread, pudding, caramel, nutmix with an unpleasant bitterness of unripe chestnut and a savory watery dimension like Maggi-infused beef broth. A late brandy-like whiff of alcohol, otherwise well-hidden. Tolerable and slightly pointless.
