Maker: Privat-Brauerei Schmucker, Mossautal, Odenwald, Germany *** Beer: Schmucker Märzen (bottled, 500ml) *** Style: Oktoberfest/Märzen *** ALC.VOL.: 5.5% *** "This is the bottom-fermented beer that kick-started the brewery in 1780. Amber-coloured, smooth, with its characteristic malty base and a subtle, pleasant hop note." [brewery note, my translation] *** Colour: Clear deep golden yellow, with a medium-sized, creamy white head. *** Nose: Sweet malts, some hops, grass, hay. *** Texture: Medium-bodied, still watery. Active carbonation. *** Taste: Initially sweetish flavour of cereals and mild bready malts. A hint of hops, which grows stronger towards the middle. Finish is again slightly sweetish, malty, with a hint of lemon. After taste the same. *** Impressions: A solid everyday "quaffer" with a pleasantly malty emphasis (which is what I like about Schmucker’s lager-style beers). Not terribly characterful, as you may have guessed, but not totally bland either. Nice hop presence, too.

Vollkommen in Ordnung die Geschichte hier. Einfach zu trinken, Schön im Malz mit einer guten Bumms an Karamell und Getreide. Angenehm, mild, süffig,

Bottle from IxI Getränkemarkt in Frankfurt. The beer has got a clear deep golden colour with a steady low head and medium body. Aroma of hops and straw. Taste of mild hops, barley, straw, flowers, nuts, bread and grains. Refreshing and solid, yet nothing special. Grainy and light thin finish.

Bottle, 500ml. A golden beer with a medium size foamy head. Aroma is of wheat, canned corn and some spices. Taste is bitter, but it becomes somewhat watery towards the finish. Aftertaste is not very strong. The end feels a lot like sparkling water. A very drinkable beer, but nothing remarkable

Bottle, 500ml. Clear golden/amber with a minimal offwhite head. Sweet malt and cereal aroma with a hint of spices. Sweet and spicy, with a subtle herbal bitterness. Simple, drinkable lager.

Extraordinary aroma, taste and superb after taste. Old fashion flavour, fantastic body and looks, lasting and tight foam. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle (BB Jan 2015). Head is initially small, frothy, off-white, mostly diminishing. Body is medium yellow. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted bread), lightly hoppy (herbs, flowers). Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery/syrupy texture, lively/soft carbonation. Very plain and simple, and on the sweet side...a bog standard golden rendition if there ever was one.

The beer starts smooth, a stronger bitterness comes in fast, grainy-malty. The mainpart is strange chemically bitter with a grainy-malty body. In the aftertaste malty-grainy. Moderate bitter.
