hoppopotamus (182), Santa Cruz, California, USA May 14, 2009 Updated: Jun 16, 2009A hazy golden beer with a white head that leaves lace. Aroma is spicy hops, with a bready, yeasty, base and light fruit (banana). The flavor is a nice tart fruity weizen, kinda orangey, with more pronounced hop bitterness at the end, but not overwhelming. I’m not a weizen fan, generally, but this is a good beer! skortila (2875), Bunnik, Netherlands May 13, 2009 Bottled. Aroma has yeast, pines, some spice and hops. Hazy, yellow coloured with an off-white head. The taste is slightly sweet, more bitter towards the finish. Quite dry. haz pine, some wheat and citrus. Medium bodied. Lubiere (4463), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada May 10, 2009 A hazy yellow weizen with a thick off white head. Aroma of interesting c-hops, pinhey and aromatic, with light bananas and pineapple. In mouth, a silken weizen, with fruity esters in beginning, followed by c-hops and grapefruits, well balanced and fruity. Wow! Shared with Probstk, May 5 2009. FlssmrBrewAlum (1079), Lisle, Illinois, USA May 10, 2009 The 2nd side of this pair. I was very hopeful for this beer, as I loved Brooklyn’s version. 50 CL bottle from Binnys (Orland Park, IL). Pours a glowing rich gold with hints of fiery orange, very hazy, with big bubbly offwhite head that sticks around well, laces. Aromas evident straight from the pour, pushing hearty wheat and fruity esters, banana, clove, lemon with a nice floral hop bouquet with light lemony citrus. Very inviting. Initial is a decent body, pushing banana and lemon, clove and fresh flaked wheat, fruity esters and cereal grains mixed well. Nice bitterness towards the finish, pushing some florals and citrus, balancing the earlier fruity banana esters. A bit strong really, but I really like this. Preaches a good bodied brew, good flavors, and a nice balance of hop and wheaty goodness. I think I liked the Brooklyn version a little more, but this brew is great also. Cheers! Svesse (2597), Hässelby, Sweden May 10, 2009 (Draught at Oliver Twist, Stockholm) Cloudy orange/yellow colour with frothy, off-white head. Malty, spicy nose with citrus, grass, yeast, banana, vanilla and coriander. Malty, fruity taste with notes of lemon, yeast and a touch of spices (coriander, clove), while grassy, floral hops give the finish a certain hop bite. Slightly above medium body, fairly sweet. Very interesting cooperation and a nice beer. jvmiller (532), Bel Air, Maryland, USA May 9, 2009 Wheaty-banana components plus crisp hop bitterness, much like a pale or ipa. Sweet, fruity, like apricot mixed with a piney-resinous hop flavor. But its got that more musty-earthy component from the german side. Very drinkable, much like the aventinus. Overall: Fruity, hoppy, banana-y, wheaty. Nice. j12601 (1149), Poughkeepsie, New York, USA May 8, 2009 500ml bottle that I had as a side by side with the Brooklyner-Schneider version.. Pours a very hazy deep straw color, almost the same apricot as the Brooklyn-Schneider version, but a touch lighter. Medium white head. Pineapple, cinnamon, citrus hops, touch of toast as this gets warmer. Thin to medium bodied, lightly spicy, almost a touch of metal. Nice light spicy finish. While this was tasty, I think the Brooklyn one was a hair better. Both good though, and I’d certainly drink either again. Furseth (1328), Kungälv, Sweden May 8, 2009 Bottle: Hazy yellow colour, with a big head. Aroma is werry fruity, citrus, banana and orange nice fruity/bitter nose in the end here!
Flavor had a weery nice smouth fruity/sweet mouth felling, this definitive German meets US in brewning. Werry nice mix this one. Thin to medium body, and a nice medium fruity/citrus mix in the end. This was a nice surprice!
