maxpizzo (44), Italy May 8, 2009 interesting union of two different type of beer.the classic corn and fruity taste of hefe-weiss unites with the agrumes and wyith the bitterness of a pale ale.the result is a well-blanced beer, with a nice alcoholic taste on the end,but extremely drinkable at the same time Frovigalning (388), , Sweden May 8, 2009 Bottle 500 ml. Copper hazy colour with a medium foam. The smell has tones of grassy hops. First taste is kinda weird, with tastes stretching all over the place. My first impression, is this a mix of an APA and a weissbier? It both has some sweetness and a distinct bitterness. The finish has some warm alcohol and something chemical to it. Im not entirely sure what to think of this beer. It feels very unbalanced with different tastes tugging in different directions. On the other hand it is a very interesting beer that got me thinking. I guess the grade is a compromise ;) andersand (271), Malmö, Sweden May 5, 2009 Hazy brow-yellowish with a huge white head quickly fading to a thin cap over the surface. Aroma is inviting with the best of two worlds (american hop juice, german wheat banana treat stuff.) Mouthfeel is medium and soapy. Flavour is very wheaty yet with a tropical fruit touch creating almost chemical/rubber notes. The finish is a nice blend blend between the two base components, light bitterness and a big satisfying sweetness ending on a dry note. Very drinkable (for it’s size) and really good actually. rickgordon (3285), Göteborg, Sweden May 4, 2009 Bottled.
Hazy pale orange colour. Not as big head as expected, being a weizen(bock). Aroma is rich, there is mandarine, rubber, banana and orange peel to name some. Bit dry-ish feel to it already in aroma. Band-aid backbone in flavour, integrated with rubber and hop juice. Moussy mouthfeel with great effervescence. This is a great example of old and new in wonderful harmony. Stalwart weizenbock from my favourite wheat beer brewery in the world, spiced with rich amounts of hops the American way. The phenols and the hops seem to create a wonderful, yet bizzare-ish rubber/plastic flavour backbone that’s yummy for some and yuky for others. Bitterness is low, as recommended. This is really a dangerous brew. I’m glad I only bought one today. Burp. Kalli (474), Falun, Sweden May 4, 2009 Full, estery aroma with sweet banana and incense. That spicy, incense-like quality carries into the flavour making this quite a special beer. There’s also some tangy, tingling quality which really comes into its own in the aftertaste, can’t really pinpoint it but I’m guessing I’ll remember the next time my girlfriend makes Indian curry...
I’ve been thoroughly bored by most weisses as of late (although a decent dunkel could probably lift my brow a little) but this has been a great surprise. But then it is a weizen bock and I’ve never been bored with them...
Oh, and as it warms more there are notes of bubble gum! Ljunkan (379), Karlstad, Sweden May 3, 2009 Bottle from Systembolaget, Karlstad.
Pours a cloudy yellow/orange color with a mediumsized white head. Aroma is nice; spicy/yeasty and fruity with notes of banana and citrus. Fresh, unusal and exciting. Flavour is spicy, there’s notes of grassy hops, citrus, apricot and some light banana. Almost a bit perfumey, but not in a disturbing way. Well hidden alcohol with a slightly bitter finish. Medium to full body with a rather oily mouthfeel, carbonation is maybe a bit lively. Gets better and better after a while in the glass, and it’s dangerously drinkable exactly as Aventinus. I think the latter one is slightly better though, even though I haven’t had it since March last year or so. Well made stuff. FatPhil (3443), Espoo, Finland May 1, 2009 500ml bottle (Janoinen Lohi, Helsinki)
Rich toffee/caramel colour, small head. Sweet caramel and banana aroma from Schneider. Tons of nettles from Brooklyn. Perfumey palate, but also nettles retronasally. Quite alcoholic, but also perfumey in the taste. Still rather nettley. Not as good as Aventinus. Had a sip from someone else’s glass too - that was soapy and tasted of disinfectant - not good (so docking 1 point overall). mabel (2530), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Apr 25, 2009 [2016-20090222] 500mL bottle. Lovely hoppy citrus aroma. Murky, light brown orange body with a long-lasting foamy white head and lots of floaties. Toasted yeast flavour has citrus lemon hops throughout. Medium body is a little bitter. Nice aroma.
