LtDan (471), LA - Originally from South NJ!, California, USA Jan 19, 2009 Appearance: Murky gold, almost pea soup green. Very cloudy with a 1 inch white head.
Aroma: Banana, clove, and latex.
Taste: Clove, coriandor, spicy/bitter hops, pineapple and banana.
Mouthfeel: Thick and full bodied.
Overall: This brew tastes better than it smells. I like the tropical notes in the taste, it helps balance out that yeasty clove business going on. I can tell this is well crafted, but not my cup of.....beer. tiggmtl (4307), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Jan 17, 2009 Mild banana esters join with lemon citrus character and some tart wheat in the nose. Opaque tan body is topped by a fizzy white, large bubbled head that reduces rapidly to a lasting cover with slight lace. Strong banana esters in the flavour which is quite sweet up front before the tart wheat comes out along with fairly strong bitterness. Mild iodine-like flavour appears in the aftertaste as it warms. Very crisp carbonation to the refreshing medium light body. Mild warming. Feels a bit subdued for a weizen bock. Weizen glass. Just above fridge temperature. Bottle. Brewery Creek. Aug-08. pantani (1894), Salinas, California, USA Jan 17, 2009 Bottle shared by CapFlu. Lightly foggy amber, thick white head. Aroma is light alcohol, wheat, banana, yeast, tinge of a caramel sweetness. Taste is a light wheat, banana, yeast, light alcohol, toffee like sweetness on the back end. tgncc (796), Bellmore, New York, USA Jan 15, 2009 The aroma jumps out first, a nice floral hop smell, followed by a fruity bubble gum flavor, banana, slight spicyness, malts. Hazy yellow, with a hint of orange, less orange than would be typical for the style. Highly carbonated, lots of bubbles, thick white foam, some particulate matter visible. The flavor is sweet, malty, grainy, citrusy. The finish is a decent amount of bittering hops, with a slight metallic taste which is just slightly off putting. Slight alcohol burn at the end, unusual for this style (may account for slight metal taste). Very good beer overall. daniele (1642), Italy Jan 15, 2009 chira schiuma media discreta persistenzal naso è luppolato e toglie molto le caratteristiche di una weizen che pero risulta piacevolmente beverina data dalla buona qualità dell’abbondante luppolo bdigital (585), Ft Wayne, Indiana, USA Jan 8, 2009 Bottle...pours a beautiful dark orange color with good clarity and a massive, fluffy white head. Immediately the hops on this hit with notes of fresh mint, banana, light malted wheat, clove and some light citrus...wonderful stuff. Medium bodied...nice carbonation. Starts with a bit of a citrus zest taste which leads to a massive amount of mint, some other herbal essences and some wheat on the finish. Very good brew, one that I’ll pick more up of for sure. moelikebeer (219), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA Jan 8, 2009 Bottle. Murky, dark golden white pour with a small thin head that disippated quickly. Aroma of wheat, banana, clove and herbal hops. Flavor of wheat, banana, spice and a nice bitter dry hop finish. Just a touh of alcohol in the finish; doesnt taste like 8.2%. tarheels86 (704), Washington DC, USA Jan 5, 2009 500 mL into a Weihenstephaner weizen. Pours a muddy, translucent orange with a huge marshmallow cap that fades but leaves some nice lacing. Aroma of floral hops, potpourri, bitter orange, and spice. Flavor is spicy hops, yeast, and nutmeg but gets a little soapy. Finishes clean and dry. Crazy amount of alcohol for a weizen but it is mellowed nicely by the malt, yeast, and hops. I would like to try it again and hold off on dumping in the yeast. Overall, the Brooklyn version is far superior.
