BückDich (4793), McCall, Idaho, USA Nov 27, 2008 Bottle: Cloudy muddy orange/brown, thick white head and a firm sheet of lacing. The nose is fresh and herbal with tons of yummy ammoniaish minty hallertau. The flavor is sweet and intense with a distinct dusty hop note. Good. Interesting experiment with the high gravity and dry hopping on the hefe. I like! bierkoning (5992), La Tropica, Netherlands Nov 19, 2008 Bottle from Der Doppelbock, thanks! Blonde with a touch of orange. Orange, banana and grapefruity hops in the aroma. Sharp oily citric grapefruity hopbitter flavor with banana notes, lingering on in the aftertaste. Pours a hazy golden amber with a white head the dissipates to a wisp. Medium bodied with a some tickly carbonation. The wheat malt backbone is behind flavors of banana, white pepper, and some european hoppiness. Belgian phenols on the finish with a hint of alcohol. Comes across more Belgian than German. This sort of struggles for identity mjg74 (1995), La Mesa, California, USA Oct 23, 2008 Bottle from South Bay. Hazy medium amber in color upon pouring. Sweet aroma. I can detect some apple and yeast. Scent is also spiced with some hops. Mild yeast and spices up front. Quite hoppy for the style. Very interesting take on the style. GregClow (2493), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 23, 2008 Bottle courtesy of rudolf - thanks, rudy! Pours a hazy golden-orange with a huge creamy white head, lots of little floaties, and very active carbonation. Luscious aroma of pineapple, lemon, pepper, and nice herbal hops. Crisp body that really refreshes the palate. Flavour is yeasty and spicey, with notes of clove and pepper, some lemon and pineapple, and a well-hopped finish that is herbal and a pit piney. I had the Brooklyn-brewed version a couple of weeks ago and haven’t entered my notes yet, but I recall enjoying it a bit more than this one. Still, this is very fine stuff - which isn’t a surprise, given the pedigree.
