agl108 (503), Manayunk, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 13, 2008 500 mL bottle at Flat Rock Saloon. Bottle was different than appears here, also no mention of Brooklyn being involved. Poured hazy orange with thick white head. Spicy hop flavor that finishes with banana esters. An interesing concept beer. Butters (1623), Virginia, USA Jun 12, 2008 Bottle, at same time as the Brooklyn version. Pours a slightly darker and slightly hazier than the dark straw of the Brooklyn version. Massive white head is less sustainable and has slightly less lacing than Brooklyn. Aroma of citric, mango, and wheat, and a hint of burnt marshmallow, more complex, but less appealing than the Brooklyn. Flavor is astringent and medicinal, but this fades to a bitter fruit. Medium mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Not all that great to be honest. And even though the Brooklyn version is better, it still isn’t amazing. rudolf (1734), Buffalo, New York, USA Jun 12, 2008 Bottle from VBM. Hazy gold, lots of visible carbonation and a huge craggy white head. Very nice lacing. Nose is hoppy banana, wheat, yeast. There is a toffee that makes me think of a Belgian golden ale. Flavor is wheat, yeast, tingly hops, alcohol. The alcohol is a bit much - thinning & drying more than I would like. Again, that Belgian maltiness is there in the finish. At the tail end some minerals come out. BOLTZ7555 (1053), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Jun 10, 2008 Bottle acquired via mcferc4...Thanks Rob!!! Not my favorite style but I truly enjoyed this beer. Banana and clove somewhat took a back-seat to yeast and hops. I’m not saying this is the best beer in the world but it is interesting and worth a try. Honey, citrus, and wheat...amazing carbonation works its way up through this beer with ease. If it’s available...try it and tell me what you think!!! twitcher (293), framingham, Massachusetts, USA Jun 10, 2008 bottle. Straw yellow, cloudy pour with a crazy big fluffy head. Nose of banana and tangerine sweetness and some yeasty twang. Some spicy hops jump in on the flavor that aren’t noticeable in the nose. Followed by some traditional, well done weisse flavors- smooth grainy sweetness, sharp but non-aggressive yeasty notes, slightly astringent grains. Balanced and even on the palate. Good stuff. durhambeer (1188), Durham, USA Jun 10, 2008 Bottle. Golden hazy orange pour with a lively head. Complex nose of tropical fruits, banana, citrus, yeast. On the tongue it reveals notes of pineapple, papaya, and a very pleasant wheat/grain taste. Maintains a lively carbonation. A bit thin on the palate but hides the alcohol well. A lovely collaboration. gueuzeisgod (109), Graham, North Carolina, USA Jun 10, 2008 Bottle, poured aggressively and developed an abounding head. Very nice amalgamated aroma of the typical banana, bubblegum and spice without any one thing standing out. Taste has some crisp wheat and sweet barley accompanied by a firm hop bitterness, fruits and spice- again, like the aroma, everything blended and balanced. Alcohol is pretty well hidden (8.2%? really?) Nice collaboration of two great brewers, tasty and the price point isn’t out of reach for frequent drinking. SledgeJr (2957), Omaha, Nebraska, USA Jun 7, 2008 On tap at the Huber Haus. Pours a butterscotch-colored cloudy dark gold with a creamy thick head that is difficult to get into the glass. Aroma is not hoppy at all. At warming, there’s some banana flavor, but it’s mostly wheat. The flavor is amazing. This has a wonderfully balanced hop bitternes that blend well with the mild citrus lemon and orange tastes of the weizen yeast esters. A very thick beer. Just a super delicious treat. Clearly and as usual, you must try this one vom fass.
