ChainGangGuy (2523), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Feb 22, 2008 Appearance: Opaque orange body with a full, frothy, white head.
Smell: Juicy fruit aroma of apricots, citrusy grapefruit, even some pineapple. Notes of clove, banana, and wheat dough all take a backseat to the hop aromas.
Taste: Jumps right in the citric, sweet fruit juices from the aroma. Big bite of orange pith. Drop of banana smoothie with some white pepper tossed in. Quick hint of vanilla in the middle. Sure, there’s some tangy wheatiness, but all of the wheat characteristics are obscured by all the hops. A touch of acidity along the way. Substantial hop spices with a medium, though lasting bitterness. Juicy, bittersweet finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: The hops really boost the aroma and flavor up without adding any overbearing bitterness. It’s something different, I’ll give it that. JMFG (1514), Florida, USA Feb 11, 2008 Bottle. Pours a murky amber with yellowish hues. Thick rocky white head that settles. Dusty earthy hop aroma, some sharper notes seem to get lost. Sweet rich maltiness on the taste with a nice background level of hops. Low carbonation. The collective qualities add up well. This one grew on me the longer I sipped it. troyc (1173), Lubbock, Texas, USA Jan 28, 2008 (Bottle) Pours a hazy light brown / dark yellow body with a large white head. Sweet aroma of banana, floral hops, and yeast. Unique flavors include a definite hoppy bite, in addition to bubblegum and wheat malt. Overall, I think that the flavors didn’t mesh as well as I would have liked. The hefeweizen side of the card was pretty good, but the sweet malts mixed with the hops ended up producing a sweet hoppy taste that was a little bit too much. Good palate and mouthfeel, with lively carbonation. The alcohol was well masked. Definitely worth a try, but overall I was slightly disappointed. Dough77 (771), Aurora, Illinois, USA Jan 24, 2008 Brownish body with descent head. Nose was a mix of bananas and IPA notes of hop and malt. Very strange from beginning to end, a bit too much wheaty banana then I’d have liked. jgb9348 (2492), Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA Jan 21, 2008 Great super dark brown coloured body with a hazy golden tint and a super thick white head. Aroma of fresh citrus, piney and grapefruity hops - simply amazing. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong wheat flavour up front with a good yeast kick and a bunch of sugars all leading way to a potent hop finish. Aftertaste has a bit of a ’band-aid’ taste, with some hops, wheat, yeast and coriander seed taste. Overall, a damn good beer for the style with potent hops, a good malt backbone and the sweetness to show well. Very nice to try - definitely recommended! I sampled this 50 cL bottle purchased at Grape & Gourmet in Virginia Beach, Virginia on 21-January-2008. nuplastikk (1161), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Jan 17, 2008 500ml bottle. The appearance definitely gets a 5 on this one. Deep, rich, pumpkin-orange color. Very lively carbonation and accompanying head. All the quality and depth of a top notch Bock, but with an intensely prominent fresh Hallertauer hop profile. It classifies itself as a Hopfen-weisse. BleacherBum (176), Blowing Rock, North Carolina, USA Jan 17, 2008 Was lucky enough to grab a couple and then, two days later, it was gone forever! Damn you....whoever you are! This was a great mid-summer treat. Big clove, wheat and bananna aromas. Even more spicy, dry treats in the flavor. The fruity essence of the yeast really worked well with the wheat and spiciness of the hops. Great selections by both brewmasters that worked wonders on the palate. Oh and the high alcohol level is a minor side note. The simplicity of this style is reason enough to recognize how special this version is. Don’t have to get to complex with my description: I’ll just leave it to the beer. Thank you Hans and Garrett!!! tympanic (50), Alabama, USA Jan 13, 2008 an interesting, unique weissbier...
