juiceisloose (634), Windermere, Florida, USA Nov 11, 2007 Poured a deep orange color with a huge foamy off white head that faded slowly. The aroma was very nice of wheat, spices, citrus, banana, and clove. This one is full of flavor. It starts off with a sweet citrus fruit flavor mixed with the wheat and spices. The spices are quite prevelant and blend in well with the other flavors. The citrus flavors of orange and banana really give a nice sweet flavor and mix in well with the hops that gives a slight tingle to the palate. The alcohol presents itself in the aftertaste, but is not overpowering. This one was medium bodied with a good amount of carbonation. I really enjoyed this one as it was quite different than the Edel Weis which is one of my favorites. henrikb (1298), Aarhus, Denmark Nov 11, 2007 The body is extremely ugly, muddy orange much like a muddy lake, the head is huge and lasting with a muddy beige color, non of it disappears; Incredible nose, beautiful balanced fresh and complex, lots of flowery unripe pineapple aromas, behind it layers of pleasant yeast aromas; The body is strange bitter with a muddy texture; Quite long balanced bitter finish mix with the slightly fat yeasty texture, it doesn’t match very well, piney hop aromas and plain a bit clay like yeast aromas. Great attempt but it doesnt work out to well, the balance between nose, body and finish is not right, Thanks Jonas. Ramenen (453), San Salvador, El Salvador Nov 10, 2007 Refreshing. Pours a beatiful cloudy, yellow liquid. Aroma of peaches and bananas. Well balanced taste between the fruit, hops and spices. It is an americanized weizen bock. Heathen (723), Riverside, New Jersey, USA Nov 9, 2007 THOUGHTS: It didn’t seem like a weizen bock at all. Not in look, aroma, flavor or palate. It was almost like two different beers from the glass I had without the yeast to when I added. At least in feel and look, that is. A nice beer but an awful weizen bock. It’s more like a cross between a dunkle weise and a wit.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a hazy, dark yellow that gets way darker after the yeast is added, turning more of a light brown. It had great carbonation and a large to huge foamy, white head. The aroma was very light hops, light to moderate doughy yeast, slight banana and lemon and wheat. The initial flavor was lightly sweet and acidic, while the finish was heavy sweetness, moderate acidity and bitterness and sour with a short duration. The flavor started with a slight milk chocolate malt flavor turning toward wheat and lemon along with som lemony hops in the finish, but they seemed like they didn’t belong there. Not a good combination, but luckily that lemon hop flavor is not that strong so it isn’t too off putting. The medium to full body was creamy with soft carbonation and a slightly chalky and light to moderate astringent finish. Funknmilla (577), Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 6, 2007 Fluffy ass white head, smells earthy and hoppy, mesmerizing bubbles, cloudy orange with some brown undertones...ok, back to the head.....its like a sponge that you want to scrub your tongue with....a hopped wheat, yes yes yes....smells delightful...alcohol well blanketed, grapefruits and oranges together with the lemon just squirting its self periodically in the mix 1FastSTi (2551), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA Nov 6, 2007 Sampled side-by-side with the Weisse Original. Pours to the murkiest muddiest pale straw colored body ever with a very nice airy, soapy white head. Nice lacing. Letting the beer rest a little makes the body not look so "bad". Definitely unfiltered and extremely bottled conditioned. The aroma is AWESOME. The Hallertauer Saphir hops are very vibrant and awesome. Perhaps candied pineapples? Maybe some green maraschino cherries... fruit bread. I’d almost say kolache like. The flavor is wheat, candied fruits, sweet pineapple kolaches. Extremely unique beer. An extremely hopped up wheat beer. Fortunately, this was lacking on the typical wheat beer esters or bananas and cloves. The palate is drying, sweet, fruity, and medium bodied. Hoppy, but only slightly bitter. RollinHard (748), Fort Worth, Texas, USA Nov 2, 2007 Pours the color of straw and hay that’s been caked with mud with a big fluffy white head, eventually dissipating. Aroma is quite heavy on the hops which is very cool for this style. Lots of pine, lemon, grass, pepper, cloves, toffee, and ginger. Occasional whiffs have a real pungent plantstore aroma. Tastes fairly bready with an earthy tartness, tons of cloves and dry spicy yeast notes, a lot of grassy and lemon hop flavor. Finishes with expected cleanliness of hefeweizens, but there’s a lingering hop aftertaste that isn’t usually there. Only lightly bitter. Medium bodied and highly carbonated, the mouthfeel is pretty much on target. Pretty cool beer that I’m very happy to try, but I can’t help but think about how much I want some Aventinus. yngwie (4880), Kristiansand, Norway Nov 1, 2007 Bottle. (thx Papsoe for sharing) Hazy, orange body with a nice, off-white head. Hoppy, peppery aroma leaving the banana in the background, and there’s also a sugary sweetness. Nice bitterness in the flavor, with some banana, pepper notes and sugar. Sweet, full body, and a long finish with a balancing bitterness. A lovely twist for a weissbier. (071004)
