RollinHard (750), Fort Worth, Texas, USA Nov 2, 2007 Pours the color of straw and hay that’s been caked with mud with a big fluffy white head, eventually dissipating. Aroma is quite heavy on the hops which is very cool for this style. Lots of pine, lemon, grass, pepper, cloves, toffee, and ginger. Occasional whiffs have a real pungent plantstore aroma. Tastes fairly bready with an earthy tartness, tons of cloves and dry spicy yeast notes, a lot of grassy and lemon hop flavor. Finishes with expected cleanliness of hefeweizens, but there’s a lingering hop aftertaste that isn’t usually there. Only lightly bitter. Medium bodied and highly carbonated, the mouthfeel is pretty much on target. Pretty cool beer that I’m very happy to try, but I can’t help but think about how much I want some Aventinus. yngwie (4880), Kristiansand, Norway Nov 1, 2007 Bottle. (thx Papsoe for sharing) Hazy, orange body with a nice, off-white head. Hoppy, peppery aroma leaving the banana in the background, and there’s also a sugary sweetness. Nice bitterness in the flavor, with some banana, pepper notes and sugar. Sweet, full body, and a long finish with a balancing bitterness. A lovely twist for a weissbier. (071004) Odeed (1666), Bakersfield, California, USA Oct 31, 2007 (big thanks to kramer for this.)pours a murky yellow with a nice bubbly head.the aroma is made up of wheat, hay, oranges, and cinnamon.the flavor grabs the characteristics of the aroma and adds some peppery spice to go with it.pretty solid brew. holdenn (1432), Chicago, Illinois, USA Oct 30, 2007 Bottle from Sam’s Wine and Spirits. Pours a cloudy orange with a white head. Aroma is creamy orange with coriander and citrus. Citrus orange and yeasty flavors. Tangy and spicy. Nice American influence on a Bavarian style. gpekar (221), Maryland, USA Oct 30, 2007 Pours a golden amber color that becomes a creamy cloudy muddy water color when the sediment mixes in with a thick foamy head. Smooth rich flavor with a nice hoppy bite. Excellant Beer!!!! dogfishho (172), Bloomfield, New Jersey, USA Oct 30, 2007 Pours a nearly opaque, slightly orange, yellow with a thick, creamy, large-bubbled head. The aroma is of bananas, lemon, and a crazy amount of piney, grapefruity hops. The flavor is dominated by the fresh, flowery hop taste, which adds a unique and delicious element to this hefe, which is a style that I typically despise. The finish is crisped by the hop content and overall makes for a unique and delicious style-bender. Zinister (1199), Houston, Texas, USA Oct 29, 2007 Much thanks to theisti for this great beer. Very nice orange pour with a full inch frothy head that lingers at 1/4 inch the entire time. Great lacing. Aroma is lemon, honey and hops...oranges too....very interesting.Mouthfeel is creamy and thicker than I expected. Chewy spiced malts soaked in lemon and honey and sprinkled with hops...mmmm. Not a fast drinker, but one to be enjoyed. Thanks T. JCB (1716), Durham, North Carolina, USA Oct 28, 2007 Fabulous looking pour with a deep and cloudy orange body and a huge frothing head. The aroma is even bigger, with just a ton of banana and clove in there. A fun beer to swirl around in the class, letting the yeast mix and the smells waft out. It’s a bit hot to taste, combined with the bite of the Hallertau hops (which I find pleasant), yielding an almost peppery finish. That combined with the banana prominence make the beer very quirky, but certainly winning.
