HighWine (163), , California, USA Jan 17, 2009 Tap at Toronado. Cloudy brown pour with candy and banana nose. Beautifully loaced head. Tase is yeast with predimonant clove and faint roast and bitterness. caesar (3020), Bunnik/Utrecht, Netherlands Jan 17, 2009 Bottled. Brownish color, short head. Aroma of malt, toffee, bit smokey, some vanilla. Malty taste, bit alcoholic, slight fruity. Big bock. kappldav123 (1788), Markkleeberg, Germany Jan 10, 2009 The bottle looks really good. Mine is numbered 2008/05789. Starts modest fruity and yeasty, a little bit too alcoholic I think. Interesting, but I exspected more. elihapa (1033), Honolulu, California, USA Jan 7, 2009 2005 vintage bottle. Pours purple with dark browns and reds. Aroma is quite sweet, of ripe, juicy fruit, and sugar syrup. To be honest, this brew is dominated by sweetness, which is a turnoff to a hophead like me. It does, however, do a nice job “balancing” its purple jolly rancher sweetness with interesting fruity touches. This is an intense drink, and I suspect that further aging will not dull the flavor explosion it beholds. Barrios (852), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Jan 7, 2009 Updated: Apr 5, 2009Pours with not much head with a deep amber body. Nose is full of malt, alcohol, and root beer. Flavor is sweet and malty with raisin, clove, and yeast. Fine carbonation. A bit hot with alcohol. Doppelganger (1353), Dry County, Arkansas, USA Jan 6, 2009 Bottle from a little shop in Philadelphia. Fin recommended this one, and a fine beer it is! Deep, deep brown with a fine tan layer of bubbles. The smell alternates between iodine, smokey leafy mulch, fig cake on one sniff, and then the next sniff over to used transfer case oil. Salty-sweet licorice flavor, dark and warming. Tastes its strength and then some. Almost like sipping bourbon. But then rather delicate at the same time. And while sweet, doesn’t seem thick or cloying. Clove and cinnamon spice finish. A brooding, intense beer. The W. B. Yeats of the beer world. SkyCop32 (286), Morlautern, Germany Dec 31, 2008 Drank this with fellow taster oldrtybastrd from this site. Pours a nice brown color with a carmel and molasses aroma and about the same taste with a little alcohol added in.
