hallinghansen (263), Odense SV, Denmark Dec 7, 2008 Dark brown color. Powerfull weizenbock. You can taste the alcohol, but its not unpleasant. It is a very nice beer. jerohen (1602), Bussum, Netherlands Dec 4, 2008 Number 1500 exclamation mark. Bottled from Bierkoning, Amsterdam. Very dark brown coloured, brown head. Complex aroma, malts, fruit, raisins, wheat, very nice. Pretty harsh flavour compared to the regular Aventinus, the alcohol really kicks in. Very smooth everlasting finish, though. I like the regular Aventinus more for its drinkability, but this is still quite good. nqualls (1429), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Dec 1, 2008 Bottle. Poured a cloudy brown color with a small white head. Aroma of wheat and bananas. Flavor was sweet with bananas and a good alcohol warming finish. I prefer the regular Aventinus, but this was good. mjs (1445), Helsinki, Finland Nov 28, 2008 (Bottle) Dark brown. Cloudy. Quickly disappearing medium sized fizzy white head. Strong aroma of banana and wheat, with some spices and a hint of alcohol. A bit too much carbonation on the palate. Malty banana flavour, with alcohol very clearly present. Long warm aftertaste. luttonm (274), Belgrade, Serbia Nov 20, 2008 Bottle. Hazy, deep brown with creamy head. Bright carbonation, not too heavy on the tongue. Caramel and anise on the nose. Flavor is a bit tart/sour with lots of bright malts. Sticky-sweet, very concentrated flavor. Wonderful, a staple.
otakuden (518), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Nov 20, 2008 Long before I jumped into the bottomless ocean of craft beers, I was already working on being well-immersed in the import beer scene. Well, as much as a novice beer geek can be. I can’t count the number of times in the papoose stages of my beer development that I would buy a beer blind, take it home, drink it, and try to understand it along with also enjoying it. Usually I enjoyed it no matter what, but the understanding part was a hit or miss. Thankfully, the internet, beer books, and fellow beer geeks are a plethora of information and insight which has helped me over the years create my own information and insight, validly of course. This brings me to the Schneider-Sohn Aventinus Weizen Eisbock, yet another journey into German wheat beers of which I had no inklings about when I first drank it. Oh, how the times have changed.
On the technical side, my Aventinus Weizen Eisbock is from 2007, batch number 05489. In the meantime, I must not keep myself from enjoying once more this amazingly rich, thick, and enticing beergasm. She poured a hazy dark brown with burnt amber and garnet glinting in the brilliant rays of sunshine outdoors. A small yet steady stream of bubbles rushes to the top, bursting forth amidst drifts of puffy foam. I close my eyes as I raise my glass to my nose and get lost in a festival of sweet dark cherries, brandy, dry raisins, prunes, dates, and soft floral notes. Accepting her invitation, I enjoy my first quaff and am struck immediately by soft and bubbly effervescence which helps balance the also immediate alcohol warmth, rich dark fruit, and burnt sugar notes. A sweet afterimage of licorice, prunes, and brandy keeps my palate warm and wanting more. Is that some milk chocolate I see, dancing with some fresh vanilla bean? Divine intervention is this, and as I savor my glass, a magical wave of warmth slowly envelopes my body. Rich, thick and decadent with a perfectly balanced palate of floral and sweet, spicy and warm, dark pitted f
