| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Oct 16, 2008 Well, I love Aventinus and this Eisbock is definitely sharing a lot of the same qualities. The flavor is full of brown sugar, bananas foster and that slightly rough alcohol finish. However, with 12% abv, you can really feel the heat. While not entirely unpleasant, it has the abrasive heat of hard liquor. It’s a nice kick, but taken to such a level that it’s hard to enjoy the palate. Aroma is pretty much same as flavor profile but sweeter. Overall, I’ll stick with aventinus, but still a good boozy brew. daknole (2885), Plantation, Florida, USA

Sweet delicious aromas of raisins, prunes, molasses, brown sugar and syrup. Flavor is concentrated, sweet and wonderful. I am glad I have another bottle to drink!! Taste is sweet and malty and fairly balanced. Not a bad eisbock, very tasty overall. reakt (938), Greater London, England
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Oct 8, 2008 Bottle @ The Porterhouse, Covent Garden. Many thanks to Pauline for the heads up. Looked a clear ruby colour in the dim light with a nice off white head. Wow, what an aroma, slight oxidization with marzipan, leather, raisins, sultanas, treacle, port, banana, stewed plums, caramel and brandy soaked Christmas pud...it’s just as I imagined.
The taste is much the same, notes of stewed plums reduced in port and some heat from the alcohol but nothing I can’t handle. Although, I do feel myself glowing a bit. Lots of yeast in the last pour that adds a few chunky floaties and haze but also some much needed body. Man, I need a night with Utopias, Triple Bock, Mikkeller 黑, Lees Harvest and this, mmmmmmmmmm... Magicdave6 (5485), London, Greater London, England
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 4, 2008 Bottle in the porterhouse. Alround rating: Showing signs of age, dark plum like fruits, oxidised sherry madera wine notes, loads of brown candy sugar like sweetness. Perhaps one of the hardest to drink beers ever, like along the lines of a fresh thomas hardy as its too carbonated, but it is quite tasty. 17thfloor (1452), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 4, 2008 [2007 Bottle] Pours a murky purple brown with a fine off-white froth and some larger floaties. Sweet fruity pungent aroma, very complex, lavender, raisin, banana, spices, vinous and some smoke? It smells like cinnamon-raison bread. Super sweet sugary raisin first taste. A bit tangy with metallic notes and some very ripe banana and caramelized brown sugar as well. Juicy plum finish. A definite sipper. Super silky smooth body, not syrupy at all despite the concentrated flavor. craftycarl21 (525), South Hero, Vermont, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 3, 2008 pours a dark almond with a frothy head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is very strong, with banana, grain, malt, and maybe even some strawberry or cherry. Flavor is excellent, with more spices along with the sweet fruitiness. Palate is very nice, drinkable but not light in the slightest. Very good brew. tgncc (809), Bellmore, New York, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 1, 2008 The appearance of this is beautiful, a nice dark brown, like maple syrup, or dark chestnuts. Strong cabonation leads to a nice off-white foam. The aroma is also beautiful. It is like the most pleasant qualities of a weizen-bock, only more concentrated. Strong aroma of banana, clove, wheat. Flavor is STRONG! A pleasing mixture of spices like clove, a reasonable (and far from overbearing) sweetness, and the grainy taste of wheat bread. Bready and a bit fruity on the finish. Excellent beer overall. BTW, the Kulmbacher Eisbock also claims the same story (in the commercial description) of a careless worker inadvertantly freezing beer and creating the eisbock.
