Commercial Description:
Aventinus, the Wheat Doppelbock of Bavaria, has always been known to be the most intense and complex wheat beer in the world. This was the case for the past sixty years, but not anymore...
Up until the 1940's, Aventinus was shipped all over Bavaria in containers lacking temperature control. Consequently, the precious drink partially froze during transportation. Unaware that the brew was concentrated by the separation of water from the liquid. People were baffled by this unique version of Aventinus. By chance, the first Aventinus Eisbock was created.
Well aware of this story, Hans Peter Drexler, brewmaster of the Schneider brewery, decided to recreate this classic "mistake" in a modern controlled facility. Thus, the Aventinus Eisbock is reborn sixty years later ... Prost!

11.2oz bottle. 2007 vintage. Murky dark brown color with a thin film of tan colored head. Sharp clovey phenolics and banana/bubblegum esters in the aroma with tinges of alefruit. Cloying fig and raisin malt flavors explode up front. Heavy estery fruit and candy components. Raisinbread, caramel segue into the finish. Hints of wheaty graininess in the finish, with some alcohol and a heavy residual sweetness met with yeast flavors. Mouthfeel is heavy, unctuous.

[Bottle] Pours a cloudy, muddy brown with a large beige head. Aroma is lots of clove and banana from the yeast, pear, some tart wheat, and a touch of sweet alcohol. Flavor is quite hot, very wheaty, chocolate covered bananas, raisins, and some caramel. Overall a pretty decent beer and definitely a sipper.

Bottled. Strong raisin, banana bread aroma. Murky brown amber colour with huge off-white creamy head. Sweet smooth intense bubbly grape/raisin banana alcohol taste. Kinda barley wine like. Definitely a winter warming beer.

Fruity aroma - dark brown color - blackberry taste - strong alcohol on the palate - all in all, a good beer.

Pours dark honey color with a tall lasting head resting to a decent ring of lace. Aromas of baked fruitcake, nuts, and jerky. Full nectar weight with mellow residual effers. Full malty sweetness packed with tons of complex flavanoids. Dark plumbs, nectarine, melon, kiwi, coffee, etc. The finish is long with lingering sweetness and no bittering just a touch of acidity. I really dig the aroma.

Pour is a murky brown with a thin, lasting tan head. The mouthfeel that I love from the regular Aventinus. Dark fruits and sugar. Good but the high alcohol presence makes it a little less desirable.

Bottle. Dark brown color, almost opaque, with a big beige head that diminishes slowly. Aroma is interesting, bursting with both wheaty fruity esters (banana, hints of apples) and caramelly malt, as well as some alcohol. Sweet flavor with wheat, fruits, some spices, light phenolic bubblegum hints, dark bread, malt, some caramel and an alcoholic taste that’s getting stronger towards the finish. Medium to full-bodied and a fluffy mouthfeel with strong carbonation.
As the beer warms up its malty character gets a bit more prominent, the wheaty side gets slightly quieter, the strong carbonation settles down a bit, and the alcohol manages to mingle with the other flavors better, making the beer more balanced both in flavor and mouthfeel. My initial score for this beer was 3.5 as it was a bit too messy and theres was a bit too much alcohol for my liking, but now as it got warmer I changed it to 3.8. This one could be a great winter sipper.

Pours a dark, deep reddish purple color with a big, foamy white head that settles very quickly. The aroma shows notes of banana, wheat, dark vinous fruit with a caramel malt base. This is very similar to the regular aventinus. The flavor follows the same lines with a really concentrated flavor of dark and vinous fruits, some wheat characters, and a good bit of sweetness from the dark malts and alcohol. The alcohol started creeping up as this one warmed up. Medium-full bodied with a syrupy mouthfeel thats leads to a fruity finish with some heat on the way down. I can see how the freezing really makes all the flavors more concentrated. Nicely crafted beer.
