Commercial Description:
Aventinus, the Wheat Doppelbock of Bavaria, has always been known to be the most intense and complex wheat beer in the world. This was the case for the past sixty years, but not anymore...
Up until the 1940's, Aventinus was shipped all over Bavaria in containers lacking temperature control. Consequently, the precious drink partially froze during transportation. Unaware that the brew was concentrated by the separation of water from the liquid. People were baffled by this unique version of Aventinus. By chance, the first Aventinus Eisbock was created.
Well aware of this story, Hans Peter Drexler, brewmaster of the Schneider brewery, decided to recreate this classic "mistake" in a modern controlled facility. Thus, the Aventinus Eisbock is reborn sixty years later ... Prost!

Opaque red-brown pour with a thin white head. Lots of banana and clove on the aroma. Sweet vanilla and fruit as well. Intense flavor. Very sweet with fruity cloves and some maple. Very bitter finish. Alcohol hits you like a punch in the face. A bit too much for me and prevented me from enjoying it more.

Poured a turbid brown color that supported an off-white, two-finger tall head. The head had some staying power and there were streaks of lacing. The aroma was malt, alcohol, wheat and something like prunes. The flavor was dominated by malt and wheat with some softer fruit and a bit of alcohol. Almost medium in body and not the smoothest finish. Decent.

Bottle, December 2007. This thing is beautiful, pours light brown, then smells of dried raisins, plums. It has a nice mouthfeel, relatively thick and full, tastes sweet with dark fruit, raisins, cherry, prune, chocolate, alcohol.

Copper tinted dark brown, some long-lasting creamy head. Strong sweet nose, some graininess, light clove and banana notes. Somewhat metallic aroma. Strong alcohol character, ethyl and fusel, strong sweetness. Warm and robust alcohol burning. Light fruitiness, a note of bitterness. Strong but not overpowering, fades quickly to a residual sweet malty effect. Lingering roasted character.

11.2 oz bottle. 2008 vintage. Bottle # 02759 purchased at Julio’s Liquors in Westborough, Mass. Pours a deep, cola like brown with a 1/2" off white head. Huge malt & wheat nose with a warm slightly carbonated palate. As to flavor, this is complex huge beer. Huge malt background with wheat, dark fruits, nuts & alcohol. This is a sipper for sure. Goes down smooth, but warm. Almost like port or brandy.
