Funknmilla (577), Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 9, 2008 Bottle...brown, beige head....Initial whiff is alcohol, then sweet candy malt...some brown sugar...just lots of sweet sugar in the nostrils...mouth, sweet at first that leads to a quick sour finish then a sweet again with a light alcohol heat...some caramel + toffee blended with sweet sweet sugar malt and licorice...a silky mouth feel---some spices in the mid-palate---I dig the silky palate, the licorice, not so much...alcohol well disguised in taste, not aroma xibalba89 (147), New York, New York, USA Aug 9, 2008 Pours a dark black-brown with a big brown head. Aroma is full of dark fruits, wheat and yeast. The body is very full and wet. Flavor is full of dark fruit and cola... I always avoided this one, just assuming it was not as good as the regular Aventinus... mistake... an excellent beer that I’ll be revisiting many times! Immy (1912), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA Aug 7, 2008 I’m not sure how I never rated this before, but I’m glad I had it from a bottle at the Schneider Weisses Brauhaus in Munich! Deep brown with a light brown head. Huge nose - raisins, plums, brown sugar, spices, banana - lots going on here! Sweet and boozy, this is an over the top experience for any beer drinker. Banana, fig, clove, date, prune - a cornucopia of flavors overwhelms the palate. Awesome - and you only need one... AllAboutStout (605), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Aug 7, 2008 Pours very dark brown with just a slight head forming on the pour. Smell is very dark malts, and dark fruits. Flavor is huge! Incredible mouthfeel. More dark fruits and a very good Weizen taste. Very little if any sign of the high ABV in the taste. Maybe just a little heat, but that’s hard to notice. Goes down way too easy for a beer this big. Tastes great and doesn’t get old at all. Very complex, very big, very good beer! tedovertu (259), Apple Valley, Minnesota, USA Aug 3, 2008 Updated: Oct 15, 2008Amazing beer. Complex flavor (mixture of spices/cinnamon and fruits). Dark brown color and medium bodied.
892/97/3.83/10-15-08 SHIG (2012), Aviano, Italy Aug 3, 2008 Bottle: Poured a dark chocolate brown with off white to tan head. Aroma is nice malt and sweet wheat. Taste is sweet fruit with sweet malt. This beer hides the alcohol very well. DaMenace123 (250), Houston, Texas, USA Aug 3, 2008 mahogany color. Spicy dark fruit smell. Similar taste, with bitter chocolate. Full bodied and complex. LilBeerDoctor (1479), East Setauket, New York, USA Jul 31, 2008 Bottle, 2005. Pours brown with a small tan head. Aroma is quite sweet, of raisins, alcohol, and super sweet malt. Flavor is rather vegetably (squash, carrot) and sweet. I tasted these exact same flavors in another bottle and wasn’t sure if the bottle was in poor condition, but as this is my 2nd bottle, I feel pretty confidant in regards to its vegetably taste. Strong but still drinkable (wow, I couldn’t believe it was 12%!). Decent, but not particularly a favorite.
