Very good. guyinchicago (516), marengo, Illinois, USA Apr 28, 2008 Updated: Oct 26, 2008picked up at binnys in schaumburg.this is my first of this style, and was looking forward to cracking this one open.poured murky brown small off white head with a fast disapatting minute bubblles, i could actactly hear the buubles popping like a coke.unfiltered with floaters aromas of friut bananas, plums raisens and alcohol ,taste is sweet like caramel and raisen bread the sweetness mask the high alcohol content this beer rocks dmradus (225), State College, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 27, 2008 Pours opaque brown, ruby in direct light. One finger tan fine-bubbled head fades to a frothy cap and lasts. Nose is banana, ripe dark pit fruits, dark berries, toffee and caramel, slight alcohol presence. Taste is more subdued, more balanced though at the expense of distinctive flavors: licorice as well as clove spiciness, generic dark fruitiness, caramel sweetness, banana esters fade to just a slight trace. Very little alcohol either up front or at the finish; finish is fleeting, aftertaste is subtle caramel and toffee malt notes. Moderate carbonation, very creamy, and extremely drinkable for the alcohol level. I was initially apprehensive, thinking this might edge into cloying sweetness - but not at all; in fact this is a tremendous beer. grimreeser (795), Minnesota, USA Apr 26, 2008 Pours dark brown with a large tan head. Aroma of clove, banana, a little caramel, and alcohol. Nice sweetness, it would be better if the alcohol wasn’t as strong. dj (418), Gloucestershire, England Apr 26, 2008 Bottle #2008/05714, 330ml. A cloudy, very dark brown colour. A very strong aroma, with raisins. malt, caramel and brown sugar. Taste has more raisin, a pronounced malt flavour, hints of coffee, cherry, and liquorice. Some hints of wheat and yeast also. Moderate carbonation. A fantastic taste, somewhat reminiscent of a Christmas pudding. Damm, this is good! Cletus (5001), Connecticut, USA Apr 25, 2008 4 year old cellared bottle. Pours dark brown with just a faint dappling of tan bubbles. Smells of alcohol, dark fruit (mostly raisins, some plums, some cherries), sugar, earthy. Tastes of molasses, roasted malt, a lot of residual sugar that balances out the percievable alcohol nicely, some spicy elements, licorice. Mouthfeel is full bodies and oily. Finish yields some sweetness and warming alcohol. I don’t think I could drink more than a few ounces of this at a time, but it would make for a great desert drink in place of a cordial. SamGamgee (1395), Santa Cruz (La Selva), California, USA Apr 25, 2008 33cl bottle. Dark brown with a red tinge and a nice creamy head that settles into a nice ring. Fruitcake, cotton candy, and a shot of mild alcohol in the aroma. Sweet berries and burnt sugar, with a very slight tartness showing. The alcohol comes in and dries up the finish. Thick with lower carbonation. Feels almost like a stronger sipping alcohol, but the flavors stay balanced within reason. I can tell that there is a weizenbock down there somewhere, but the massive amount of alcohol kinda squashes all the other flavor nuances. Pretty nice, but just really intense. RichJ7 (1175), Cullman, Alabama, USA Apr 17, 2008 Bottle. Cloudy amber pour with a thick off-white head. Nose of bananas, cloves, alcohol. Great flavor: big and malty, sweet and rich. Thick on the palate. Beer concentrate. Like this one quite a bit.
