Deliciously enticing nose, full of rum soaked raisins, rich toffee, and baker’s chocolate. Sweet and syrupy on the palate, with enough effervescence to carry the strong port alcohol across the tongue, ending slightly drying with a wheaty starchness and a medicinal herbal note. Packs a punch, but is subtle in its delivery enough to keep on sipping pleasantly. A tasty eisbock. trevor211 (504), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 10, 2008 Pours *syrupy* - a murky, muddy brown with almost no head. This certainly isn’t a looker. The aroma is nice - it doesn’t mislead - smells exactly like what it is, a concentrated hef. Sweet, bubble-gummy malts abound. Notes of caramel, maplewood smoke and raisins, too. Tastes *delicious*. This is far better than any other weisen I’ve ever had. It’s thick, and coats your mouth, and what is usually sickly sweet in a weisen is now earthy, with a wealth of dark malts, wheat, caramel and spices. It has a seriously strong and complex (deep!) flavor, but manages to maintain balance. This is one of my new favorites - if nothing else for its novelty, and I’m now very excited to try more eisbocks... Rciesla (3565), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA

Pours a dark brownish color and smells of strong, sweet and alcoholic caramel. Rich and flavorful, but short of cloying. Taste rich concentrated malt flavor, some toffee like notes and overall pretty good. Surprised by this one. blklab2007 (954), Connecticut, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 6, 2008 2007 bottle #14967 poured into a snifter has a red amber color and an initial light tan one finger head that fell quickly. aroma has burnt dark fruit, plumb, raisin, maple, and licorice. there is an almost smoked wood thing in the aroma distinct from the regular aventinus. flavor is certainly concentrated, dark fruit and malt, and some booze. such a strong concentrated flavor that it is somewhat overwhelming against the alcohol snap. very nice beer and boy is there some alcohol in here. i think without having tried the regular version i would not have appreciated this as much. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 6, 2008 This was one of my gateway beers way back when and have enjoyed it many times since. Everytime I drink this beer I am reminded of why I love it so much. This is thick and rich on the palate, with some brown sugar and maple syrup notes, dark fruits and some modest spiciness. Delicious. darkguardian (506), Florida, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 4, 2008 12oz bottle from Knightly Spirits. Pours burnt amber with a modest off white head. Nose is dark fruits raisins, cinnamon, brown sugar and some alcohol. Smells like an ABT actually. Taste is also reminiscent of a fine ABT, strong on dark fruits and raisin and a noticable alcohol burn in the finish. Bready aftertaste characteristic of most doppelbocks. This lacks the complexity of the normal version because the alcohol dominates the palate too much. Still great but the regular is definitely better. chicagobears (336), Elk Grove Village, Illinois, USA
