Commercial Description:
Aventinus, the Wheat Doppelbock of Bavaria, has always been known to be the most intense and complex wheat beer in the world. This was the case for the past sixty years, but not anymore...
Up until the 1940's, Aventinus was shipped all over Bavaria in containers lacking temperature control. Consequently, the precious drink partially froze during transportation. Unaware that the brew was concentrated by the separation of water from the liquid. People were baffled by this unique version of Aventinus. By chance, the first Aventinus Eisbock was created.
Well aware of this story, Hans Peter Drexler, brewmaster of the Schneider brewery, decided to recreate this classic "mistake" in a modern controlled facility. Thus, the Aventinus Eisbock is reborn sixty years later ... Prost!

(bottle) Complex aroma, not as aromatic as I had expected. Poured a deep brown-red colour. Sorry didn’t pay attention to the clarity. Almost no carbonation, and therefore poor head retention. First mouthful was smooth and tasted like a staler version of the regular Aventinus. Massively warming alcohol hit made me think I would struggle to finish the bottle (but I did). Just not as nice as the regular Aventinus, especially in this climate. Save it for winter.

A big one... almost too much. Cloudy medium-dark brown pour. Disappointing head. Very complex tastes... malty, sour, fruity... as you can see by the other varied reviews, there are many flavors in here. I got a plummy/figgy/banana fruit and some toffee, malt, and yeast. Nice lingering flavors on the backof the palate.

bottle, thanks to Bochum! Cloudy very dark brown colour, large head. Sweet and malty nose. Intensive flavours of malt, roasted malt, chocolate and a tiny and shy touch of coffee. Hints of berries. A very nice experience.

Bottle # 2004 / 22673. Pours caramel, toffee brown with virtually no head. Floaties everywhere. Aroma: huge! dried fruits, clove, bananas, figs, bread some cherries perhaps. A bit prickly and hot in the mouth. Nice chewy malts. Slightly resembles a barley wine IMO..just a bit. Taste isn’t far off from aroma. Not as sweet as I expected but every bit as boozy. Not overly thick or syrupy but it is sticky. Not bad overall.

11.2 oz. bottle on 3/4/08. Cloudy brown pour with alarge, but loosely structured, foamy, and quickly collapsing light tan head. Caramel/molasses aroma suports a classic and distinct clove and banana character. Medium/full body, lively carbonation, and nice richness in the mouthfeel. Flavor leans toward the sweet side, the caramel being prominent, with some balance provided by a spicy bitterness coming through in the finish. The alcohol is very well hidden, making this a very drinkable, perhpas too drinkable, offering at a healthy 12%. A truly beautiful beer.

(bottle) Pours light brown with a white head that lasts. Nice smell of brown sugar, definite wheat, and some banana esters as well. These smells all combine to create a pleasant aroma. The taste is also very good with some good wheat, toffee, brown sugar, light clove, with a little alcohol thrown in too. Medium mouthfeel, really good.

Bottle. Whew! This is some good stuff! Dark brown/amber. Smelled of dried fruits, cherries, spice. Great taste. Goes straight to your head. Great beer. Everyone should try this one at least once. (Have to re-rate because of trying Kulmbacher)

dark violet brown with a medium tan head. rich dark fruit aroma with a bready spiciness and definite alcohol note. smooth creaminess and a crisp full carbonation. toffee and plum, raisin flavors with a clear alcohol bite to it. the description tells you what to expect, a lot like aventinus but with a much higher and clearer alcohol note.
