Commercial Description:
Aventinus, the Wheat Doppelbock of Bavaria, has always been known to be the most intense and complex wheat beer in the world. This was the case for the past sixty years, but not anymore...
Up until the 1940's, Aventinus was shipped all over Bavaria in containers lacking temperature control. Consequently, the precious drink partially froze during transportation. Unaware that the brew was concentrated by the separation of water from the liquid. People were baffled by this unique version of Aventinus. By chance, the first Aventinus Eisbock was created.
Well aware of this story, Hans Peter Drexler, brewmaster of the Schneider brewery, decided to recreate this classic "mistake" in a modern controlled facility. Thus, the Aventinus Eisbock is reborn sixty years later ... Prost!

Dark brown pour with a off white head that dissipates quickly. Aroma of candied dark fruits, yeast, and wheat. Flavors of dark fruit, wheat, toffee, and a hint of chocolate.

Bottle thanks to jrob_21. Pours a cloudy brown with a nice beige head. The aroma is very rich; alcohol, yeast, dark fruits, and grains. The taste is also rich and great; sweet plums, raisins, wheat and rich malts, a real alcohol presence that is great. Like a rich German cake or bread. A bunch of mud in the bottom of the glass. What a great beer.

2007 bottle, this was a first for me of this style, and the first thing I noticed was the strong smell/taste of wheat and yeast. Dark brown, murky color with short lived head. Very complex flavor, begins sweet and fruity, ends a little bitter with some alcohol taste that lingers. Not bad.

2007 vintage bought at Big Z in Huntington, NY. Great complex, balanced beer that is in a category of its own. To be savored slowly as an apertif or dessert drink.

Poured into a weizen glass. Body is the same color as the bottle, and there’s little head and no lacing. Smells like unfiltered apple juice, with a touch of banana and alcohol. Flavors of bready malt with a lot of fermenting apple and some banana sweetness. Notes of dark chocolate. Not a lot of carbontion, but still pretty smooth. Finish is dirty.

This is a good rarity to drink. I do not consider it an everyday beer by any stretch. It has a very dark sugar/ caramel/ toffee aroma and it is very syrupy on the palate. It burns a bit on the way down.

Many thanks to KingG for the bonus. Pours clearish caramel brown with a fizzy white head. Smells of alcohol and caramel malt. Tastes very malty sweet and caramelly. Alcohol burn on the finish. Thin brew with super crisp carbonation that fades towards the end of the glass. Coats the mouth a bit. Ehhh.

A cloudy brown brew with a fizzy head and a pungent, fruity aroma. Aventinus has a rich, complex flavor that is like no other beer. I tasted grapes, ginseng, prunes, currants, hops, and honey in the middle of the palate. Then the tingly carbonation becomes apparent, before a surprisingly dry, mildly hopped finish. It is hard to believe the alcohol content is 12% - so that is why my brain began to emit a cheery buzzing halfway thru the bottle. Aventinus eisbock is unique and special. It is worthy of parades, songs, statues, medals, fan clubs, legends, etc.
