ogglethorp (882), Ohio, USA Feb 7, 2008 Bottle. Pours murky brown color with a thinnish tan colored head. Aroma of yeast, banana, dark fruit, alcohol. flavor is grains, yeast, banana, rasin, alcohol. palate is medium bodied, medium carbonation, finished somewhat sweet. Very nice. Goodgrief (1144), Middletown, Delaware, USA Feb 3, 2008 July 2006 - Pours looking much like a Belgian quad...dark brown with quickly dissipating head (no lacing), floating yeasties everywhere. The aroma was alcohol and dark fruits, as was the flavor. I don’t usually like the heavy alcohol flavor, but I found it warming and pleasant here. Prunes or figs or some kind of heavy, dark fruit dominate the flavor with a nice balance of spiciness. Optigon (561), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Feb 2, 2008 Pours cloudy/dark brown with minimal head. Sweet, alcoholic, fruity aroma. Thick mouth feel. Strong alcoholic flavor, mild hop tingle. strong fruity flavor to it with a little bit of a toffee quality. Pretty crazy. My first Eisbock. Pretty good actually! I’m not usually big on the Bock "genre." Fin (3376), Merton, Oxfordshire, England Jan 31, 2008 Bottle at the Weisses Brauhaus, Munchen, Germany, 25-01-08 This poured into it’s own rather natty dedicated glass, a slimline affair that widens on the halfway point with frosted glass at the bottom, probably to look a bit icy. The beer was a deep dark brown with a wonderful creamy off-white head. Chocolate, banana and alcohol tickle the nostrils and then the flavour assault begins, sweet malts, dark fruits, banana again and that alcohol forever skulking around waiting with a wry smile on its face for the moment when you get off that stool all jelly legged like Bambi on ice. I can imagine that this wouldn’t be to everyone’s taste, sometimes the alcohol can be just a tad harsh, but I loved it for what it was, which I would regard as a seriously steroided up dark wheat beer. BigMilly8 (374), Holiday, Florida, USA Jan 29, 2008 From bottle, 2007 #05488 : Pours dark murky brown, with a finger of foamy white head. Very nice lacing. Nose is fruity, bananas, spices, dark fruits, and some malt. Taste is very sweet, with strange fruity notes..i cant put my finger on exactly what fruits though. Malty, and finishes with a little alcohol action, that lingers a little into the aftertaste. Palate is very smooth, medium body. Was suprised to see the 12% abv, the alcohol taste is well hidden for containing that much. Very nice beer. stevco (1), Oakville, Ontario, Canada does not count Jan 28, 2008 Unreal depth to this beer, with a dark fruity nose, and mouthful of sweet berries and prune. IMO better than the Rochefort Trappistes 10. Almost like a Port in flavor.
Dark muddy caramel appearance, and loads of flavor, with a long finish.
The high alcohol is a bit of KO, so beware and DNDAD. Tiboron (13), Florida, USA Jan 27, 2008 12oz from fourwinds...there is no way to do this beer justice with words..you simply must try it to understand...my first pick MoDog (909), Griffith, Indiana, USA Jan 26, 2008 Poured from a 11.2oz bottle and served in a Bell’s dimpled mug. This beer poured a dark mahogany with a slowly fading head of tan, fizzy bubbles. Almost no lace to speak of. The aroma of the beer was made up of banana, caramel, clove, and also some sweet, dark fruits. The flavor included toasted caramel, dark fruit, wheat, banana, and bubblegum. Not much of the 12% ABV was detected. The mouthfeel was full-bodied with a fairly high level of aggressive carbonation. A really flavorful beer that could be quite dangerous with the well hidden alcohol. Very good.
