Commercial Description:
Aventinus, the Wheat Doppelbock of Bavaria, has always been known to be the most intense and complex wheat beer in the world. This was the case for the past sixty years, but not anymore...
Up until the 1940's, Aventinus was shipped all over Bavaria in containers lacking temperature control. Consequently, the precious drink partially froze during transportation. Unaware that the brew was concentrated by the separation of water from the liquid. People were baffled by this unique version of Aventinus. By chance, the first Aventinus Eisbock was created.
Well aware of this story, Hans Peter Drexler, brewmaster of the Schneider brewery, decided to recreate this classic "mistake" in a modern controlled facility. Thus, the Aventinus Eisbock is reborn sixty years later ... Prost!

11.2oz, 2007 bottling. Oh baby. Not much to look at, it pours a kind of murky dirty creek brown with a lasting off-white head. Aroma is huge, with loads of sweet dried fruits. Body is similar, adding some distinct black currant flavors with raisin, plum, vanilla, chocolate and spice. I think the mouthfeel here is the winner, it is an interesting combination of creaminess but at the same time decent carbonation keeps it exciting. Pretty rich style overall, I would consider this along the lines of a very rich dessert... a small portion (one bottle) is enough.

July 2006 - Pours looking much like a Belgian quad...dark brown with quickly dissipating head (no lacing), floating yeasties everywhere. The aroma was alcohol and dark fruits, as was the flavor. I don’t usually like the heavy alcohol flavor, but I found it warming and pleasant here. Prunes or figs or some kind of heavy, dark fruit dominate the flavor with a nice balance of spiciness.

Pours cloudy/dark brown with minimal head. Sweet, alcoholic, fruity aroma. Thick mouth feel. Strong alcoholic flavor, mild hop tingle. strong fruity flavor to it with a little bit of a toffee quality. Pretty crazy. My first Eisbock. Pretty good actually! I’m not usually big on the Bock "genre."

Bottle at the Weisses Brauhaus, Munchen, Germany, 25-01-08 This poured into it’s own rather natty dedicated glass, a slimline affair that widens on the halfway point with frosted glass at the bottom, probably to look a bit icy. The beer was a deep dark brown with a wonderful creamy off-white head. Chocolate, banana and alcohol tickle the nostrils and then the flavour assault begins, sweet malts, dark fruits, banana again and that alcohol forever skulking around waiting with a wry smile on its face for the moment when you get off that stool all jelly legged like Bambi on ice. I can imagine that this wouldn’t be to everyone’s taste, sometimes the alcohol can be just a tad harsh, but I loved it for what it was, which I would regard as a seriously steroided up dark wheat beer.

From bottle, 2007 #05488 : Pours dark murky brown, with a finger of foamy white head. Very nice lacing. Nose is fruity, bananas, spices, dark fruits, and some malt. Taste is very sweet, with strange fruity notes..i cant put my finger on exactly what fruits though. Malty, and finishes with a little alcohol action, that lingers a little into the aftertaste. Palate is very smooth, medium body. Was suprised to see the 12% abv, the alcohol taste is well hidden for containing that much. Very nice beer.

Unreal depth to this beer, with a dark fruity nose, and mouthful of sweet berries and prune. IMO better than the Rochefort Trappistes 10. Almost like a Port in flavor. Dark muddy caramel appearance, and loads of flavor, with a long finish. The high alcohol is a bit of KO, so beware and DNDAD.
