k4df4l (154), DTown, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 20, 2008 Bottle - pours a syrupy dark brown with chestnut highlights. Light carbonation with a skim of tiny bubbles lacing the surface. Aroma of raisins, cherries, alcohol and caramel malts. Initial flavor is similar with raisins & cherries but yeilds to creme brulee, caramel & tofee notes. Flavor becomes smokey, earthy/leathery then finishes with a bit of peppery spice and light alcohol that gives you a hint of the beer’s strength. Rather substantial palate. pojo41 (315), Hattiesburg, Mississippi, USA Jan 19, 2008 Bottle. Poured a dark murky brown with a foamy off-white head that lasted. Aroma of dark fruit and sherry. Flavor of raisin and sherry with a bit of the wheat flavor. Good mouthfeel for a beer of this strength. Not too heavy or hot with alcohol. Another world-class beer from Schneider. RomanW70 (297), Providence, Rhode Island, USA Jan 14, 2008 Updated: Jan 30, 2008While, I thought The Weizen-Eisbock was a solid beer, I was a little disappointed, considering the original Aventinus is one of my favorite beers. It poors a deep brown with a foamy head. The aroma is pleasant and complex, but not strong. The flavors were relatively mild and lacked complexity. Hid the alcohol well. Beer2000 (1775), Kristiansand, Norway Jan 13, 2008 500ml bottle. Clear reddish brown body with a beige head. Aroma is malty, marzipan, dry fruit and alcohol. Flavor is also sweet malty, dry fruit and warming alcohol. Quite impressive. rederic (1785), montréal, Quebec, Canada Jan 9, 2008 Hazy brown hue, with a frothy beige head, leaving laces, yeasty bananaish nose, with some toasty, wheaty, clovey notes, with a nice spicy vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg accent, with some good dried dark fruity aromas of fig, plum, raisin and ripe apple, follow through on a medium-bodied palate with a smooth, yeasty banana character, with some toasty, wheaty malts, with a nice spicy accent of cloves, cinnamon, some good caramelized ripe apples, some figgy, raisiny and plummy fruitiness, with a mellow warmth mouthfeel, leading towards a sweet malty, fruity, spicy, warm finish. opc (15), Ontario, Canada Jan 2, 2008 This is an incredibly good beer. It has a beautiful velvet head and a rich, thick, dark consistency that borders on being a syrup. It’s extremely high in alcohol, but you’d never know it from the taste. It’s bold and full bodied, thick one the tongue and quite sweet. If you’ve ever had a normal Aventinus, you can basically multiply that by 1.5 and that’s what you get here. Nice banana, hickory, smoke sausage, molasses, port and maple syrup undertones. It’s increasingly complex as it warms up. If I had it my way, this beer would certainly be in the top 50, a must try!
