Commercial Description:
Aventinus, the Wheat Doppelbock of Bavaria, has always been known to be the most intense and complex wheat beer in the world. This was the case for the past sixty years, but not anymore...
Up until the 1940's, Aventinus was shipped all over Bavaria in containers lacking temperature control. Consequently, the precious drink partially froze during transportation. Unaware that the brew was concentrated by the separation of water from the liquid. People were baffled by this unique version of Aventinus. By chance, the first Aventinus Eisbock was created.
Well aware of this story, Hans Peter Drexler, brewmaster of the Schneider brewery, decided to recreate this classic "mistake" in a modern controlled facility. Thus, the Aventinus Eisbock is reborn sixty years later ... Prost!

Hazy brown hue, with a frothy beige head, leaving laces, yeasty bananaish nose, with some toasty, wheaty, clovey notes, with a nice spicy vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg accent, with some good dried dark fruity aromas of fig, plum, raisin and ripe apple, follow through on a medium-bodied palate with a smooth, yeasty banana character, with some toasty, wheaty malts, with a nice spicy accent of cloves, cinnamon, some good caramelized ripe apples, some figgy, raisiny and plummy fruitiness, with a mellow warmth mouthfeel, leading towards a sweet malty, fruity, spicy, warm finish.

This is an incredibly good beer. It has a beautiful velvet head and a rich, thick, dark consistency that borders on being a syrup. It’s extremely high in alcohol, but you’d never know it from the taste. It’s bold and full bodied, thick one the tongue and quite sweet. If you’ve ever had a normal Aventinus, you can basically multiply that by 1.5 and that’s what you get here. Nice banana, hickory, smoke sausage, molasses, port and maple syrup undertones. It’s increasingly complex as it warms up. If I had it my way, this beer would certainly be in the top 50, a must try!

500ml Bottle: Excited! I love the regular Aventinus so I can’t wait to try this one. Pours a dark brown and red, not much in the way of head for me. The aroma is almost as rich and satisfying as the Aventinus with that port wine, black cherries, and pumpkin spices alongside the newfound yeast and prevalent alcohol notes. The flavour is milder than I expected with all that was promised but in somewhat muted tones, but an obvious kick of alcohol that leaves it less enjoyable than Aventinus, but good regardless. I’m looking forward to aging one and trying it again down the road!

Pours dirty brown with lots of floaties and clouds. Strong off-white head that lasts. Banana bread, cane sugar, yeast, nutmeg, cinnamon, clove, and cake batter fill the nose. Rich, full mouthfeel and taste. Great balance between the wheat and banana / yeast esters and spice. A great winter beer.

Pours reddish black with a thick off white head and lots of yeasty chunks on the bottom. Sweet candy sugar, dark fruit, yeast and alcohol in the aroma. Malty sweetness, raisin, alcohol and a hint of wheat in the taste. Very well balanced but strong like a good aperitif. Not to be taken lightly, tasty but strong.

Man, do I love this beer. Just when you thought Aventinus couldn’t get any better, they went and froze the sucker. Who needs water, anyway? Pours a hazy dark brown with a good head from a steady pour. No lacing to speak of. Aroma is of ripe plums, raisins, sweet malt, cinnamon, blueberries, and a very little bit of alcohol. Thick and mouth-coating, pulling back just short of syrupy. Flavor is of bruised plums, braised pears, raisins, and sweet red apples. Finish is sweet and lingering, and warms as it goes down. I would never in a million years have guessed this was a 12% beer. Excellent brew.

Pours deep brown like burnt caramel. Full, tan fluffy head that sticks around. Nose is sweet and malty. Flavor is similar, but even sweeter with caramel. Incredibly smooth considering the %.

(Bottled) Very dark brown with a small, partly lasting head. Strongly malty, wheaty aroma with some clove spiciness and alcohol presence. Spicy-herby (cloves, cardamom, rosemary, anise), intensively-malty, actually very christmasy flavor. Yeast emphasizes the cloves and wheatiness, but I’d say this is better without it. Quite full-bodied, slicky palate with pretty low carbonation and soft alcohol burn. Maybe slightly alcoholic - but other than that, this is pretty much the ultimate Xmas brew!
