Mike4686 (120), Bayonne, New Jersey, USA Dec 19, 2007 12oz bottle pours a dark brown with a medium white head, great aroma, very much reminds me of ayinger celebrator, great brew overall. Beer Snob (378), Ontario, Canada Dec 19, 2007 Cloudy brown brew with a tight head.
Aroma of raisins and bread and a surprisingly delicate and sweet taste, that improves as the beer approaches room temperature.
A great bock to sip on a cold day. Nice mild lingering flavour that reminds of a GOOD fruitcake.
Absolutely superb. Becker (14), Bayern, Germany Dec 18, 2007 Plumb, raisen, alcohol aroma. Tan head and medium brown body. This doesn’t taste like a 12% beer, but you feel it. Very full sweet malt flavor with nice soothing finish. Quite nice. Canuckistani (41), Dundas, Ontario, Canada Dec 17, 2007 (5cL bottle from Barrie, Ontario)
Strong, heavy beer, as an Eisbock is supposed to be. Pours a dark, cloudy, thick stream with a nice head that would probably have ended up nicely if I had tried to make it good in a proper glass (using a pilsener glass unfortunately). Head is white; lacing is reasonable but not as thick as it should be for a beer this strength, in my opinion. Alcohol is noticeable, but only to an aficionado of strong -bocks; makes itself known through the palate. Spicy citrus notes similar to a Belgian witbier are to be expected. Initial sweet flavour becomes increasingly salty as time goes by; finish is very long and astringent at first. Diogène (543), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Dec 16, 2007 Dark brown with a thin white head with some lacing but poor retention. Aroma is banana, cloves, butterscotch, sweet malt and raisins, but you could never tell this is a 12% abv, there is almost no alcohol in the aroma. Flavor is similar to the aroma, although it is sweeter, with some yeast, but still alcohol is very subtle for a 12% beer. Mouthfeel is creamy with a full to medium body and a medium carbonation. A very good winter beer. MrManning (1634), London, Ontario, Canada Dec 14, 2007 This bad boy pours a dark brown/cola body with a thick and active, tiny bubbled froth. Excellent lace and retention speak of quality yeast proteins. Huge raisin and Christmas cake nose, some prune, and caramalized fig. Burnt sugars and yeast take you to the flavour.......some clove, spices (mostly allspice, nutmeg), lots of yeast, dark fruits (plum, fig) provide sweetness and theres a decent hop profile as well. This is one of the most phenolic beers I have ever had. Fantastic.Very sweet, but not overly so. Complex, just as much as the original, but the flavours are more concentrated.Sweeter for sure, but more concentrated. A winter beer for warriors and real beer lovers. Simply delicious. tomthompson89 (1456), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Dec 14, 2007 brownish color, tan head sugary cherry vanilla nose, dark fruit caremel brown sugar and some spices make for a great flavor, nice alcohol warming. At LCBO Cartoonkhaki (1149), Brantford, Ontario, Canada Dec 13, 2007 Very dark ruby body looks like cola. Tan head that is quite active and settles down quickly. Aroma is a complex mix of fruit and malt and a little alcohol. Flavour is sweet with fruits... stewed .... Palate is smooth with alcoholic bites here and there and lots of carbonation. Very good.
