Commercial Description:
Aventinus, the Wheat Doppelbock of Bavaria, has always been known to be the most intense and complex wheat beer in the world. This was the case for the past sixty years, but not anymore...
Up until the 1940's, Aventinus was shipped all over Bavaria in containers lacking temperature control. Consequently, the precious drink partially froze during transportation. Unaware that the brew was concentrated by the separation of water from the liquid. People were baffled by this unique version of Aventinus. By chance, the first Aventinus Eisbock was created.
Well aware of this story, Hans Peter Drexler, brewmaster of the Schneider brewery, decided to recreate this classic "mistake" in a modern controlled facility. Thus, the Aventinus Eisbock is reborn sixty years later ... Prost!

330ml bottle. Dark brown-black color, with just a tinge of deep burgundy. Deep pungent aroma. Rich and malty, with very subtle chocolate malt tastes along with the banana-like favors of the weizen yeast. The alcohol is completely complimented by sweetness of the malt, reminiscent of a dark Belgian strong ale.

.33 l bottle. 2006. Bottle # 22139. Pours a muddy brown with a light tan head that became a dense film at about mid-glass and lasted until the end. Very nice aroma of caramel, brown sugar, figs and alcohol. The flavor is initially sweet figs, caramel, and a bit of brown sugar, followed by an earthy peat flavor. Some definite alcohol heat at the finish reminiscent of the finish on a sip of scotch whiskey. The heat does not interfere with the other flavors. Dense, almost syrupy mouthfeel. Really good - wish I had another put away!

Very complex and spiced flavor, with a perfume-like smell. The malts have a roasted flavor, while the hops are very subtle. It also had a sweetness that is hard to describe. A heavier beer, but wonderful all on its own.

Bottle. Malts have moderate notes of dark bread and toasted, hops have a light perfume and herb smell, and yeast has a moderate to heavy barnyard, musty and earthy smell to it, with brown sugar, dates and alcohol. Head is large, frothy, off white, has fair lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is hazy brown. Flavor starts moderateky sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes lightly acidic and very lightly bitter. Palate is medium, creamy and has a lively carbonation. It finishes lightly alcoholic. A bold beer with nice wheaty/yeasty overtones.

Poured a mahogany colour with a thin off white head. Fruity plum and alc. tones. Flavour was sticky, with an initial jagged bite that rounds off into sweetness and lingering malt and dark fruit. Better with every sip.

Murky brown pour with about a 10 second, highly carbonated head. Intense aroma is heavy on alcohol, but also has accents of brown sugar and dark fruit. Flavor is pretty hot, but good nevertheless. Syrupy sweet up front, I felt like I was almost drinking sugar. Palate is syrupy and thick as well. Nice fruity flavors underneath, the alcohol is extremely evident in this brew (yes, I know its 12%, but other brews of comparable ABV don’t taste so alcoholic). That being said, I enjoy a good alcoholic beverage, and this would be an enjoyable bock in my world!

11.2 oz bottle. Pours a clear deep chestnut bronw with an initial bubbly off white head that settles to a smooth creamy slick. very nice aroma of raisins, figs, brown sugar and slight alcohol. Very dry palate with lots of carbonation and alcohol warming. Big time alcohol flavor with some less noticable dark fruit and slightly sweet. Nice beer that is worth trying.
