Commercial Description:
Aventinus, the Wheat Doppelbock of Bavaria, has always been known to be the most intense and complex wheat beer in the world. This was the case for the past sixty years, but not anymore...
Up until the 1940's, Aventinus was shipped all over Bavaria in containers lacking temperature control. Consequently, the precious drink partially froze during transportation. Unaware that the brew was concentrated by the separation of water from the liquid. People were baffled by this unique version of Aventinus. By chance, the first Aventinus Eisbock was created.
Well aware of this story, Hans Peter Drexler, brewmaster of the Schneider brewery, decided to recreate this classic "mistake" in a modern controlled facility. Thus, the Aventinus Eisbock is reborn sixty years later ... Prost!

Pour is a ruby brown color with some sediment, minimal head. Fruity aroma with banana, plum, raisin, coffee, and chocolate notes. Flavor of coffee initially then the variety of fruit tastes. Warming alcohol is very present but not overwhelming. Somewhat fast finish.

Pour reminded me of a weak coffee brown with just a wisp of a head. Creamy & smooth with the taste of molasses with a not overpowering alcohol aroma and taste

Deep brown appearance with a very thin head. Strong aroma of malty and sweet fruit notes (I can never tell if they’re dates, prunes, figs...). Flavor strong with the same sweet fruity flavors but balanced out by minor toffee and bread on my palate. Excellent beer overall for a style that doesn’t get much love. Fabulous beer for a cold winter day. The higher alcohol content warms you from within, just like a glass of brandy (only this is more fun to drink!).

Bottled at Schneider bar next to the Hofbrahaus in Munich. Enjoyed this during the beer tour while my wife and I talked to some Australian guys. Pours a slightly hazed brown with ruby tints. Alcohol is strong in the nose. With malty prunes, tar, and dark fruit. Sweet flavors of carmel, licorice, toffee, tar, bread, and dark fruit. The alcohol and licorice are rather strong on the tongue but a tasty beer.

5/30/05. 330ml. bottled 2004. Dark brown with small creamy head. Thick sweet malt aroma. Very thick palate with sharp smoky taste. A little too viscous with too much alcohol present.

Bottle: Hazy, amber coloured, sweet , dark-malty, caramelly, a bit alcoholic nose with a tinge of molasses, small and stable off-white creamy head; very solid sweet flavour, full bodied; warming, german Christstollen-like finish with a tinge of brandy and almonds. Interesting, but very demanding..........

Recived this two years ago as a gift from Kiuchi-san of Hitachino Nest Beer! Bottle # 034100. Mar 2005- A dark murky brown, plenty of sediment. Scent of canned prunes, sweet with a hint of teriyaki sauce. Sweet flavor, loads of candied fruit, like you’d find in a fruitcake, in fact with the slight grainy taste and the warming alcohol, this is quite similar to fruitcake. I do like my beers big & thick and this is certainly both of those but I do like the "original" better.

Dark brown, unclear with frightening sediment. Powerful aroma, alchohol, fruitiness and raisins. Full bodied. Very sweet on the palate, raisins are the most dominent flavour, spice and berries, some banana. Strong and pleasant trace of warming alcohol on the finish, which grew consideribly as the beer approached room temp. A complex and interesting beer, although its individual componants are all great it doesn’t seem to marry perfectly for me. Still very nice though.
