Schneider Aventinus Weizen-Eisbock

11.2oz bottle, bottle number 2006/19132. Pours dark brown in color with brown head. Aroma is sweet and of caramel with a strong alcohol nose. Taste of alcohol, caramel and malt with dry finsih.

(bottle): Pours a cloudy dark brown reddish color. Light tannish head - diminishing. Flowery aroma, malty & hoppy but very flowery. Some alcohol. Flowery taste, some alcohol and, fizzyness. Very good. Tastes a lot like a Belgian triple or strong ale.

(33cl bottle, vintage 2007) Hazy, dark amber colour with a big, slightly off-white foamy head. Sweet and mollassy malty, slightly wheaty nose with dried fruits (figs, raisins) and a present alcoholic touch. Sweet flavour, full bodied with a smooth carbonation and a viscid mouthfeel. Strong malty, slightly wheaty taste with dried fruits, liquorice spice and a brandy-like alcoholic touch; fat malty, slightly vinous and alcoholic finish. A warming brew, but all in all a bit too strong for my kind of taste.

This beer pours a cloudy nut brown with yeast particles in it and didnt not have much of a head to it. The aroma was of pitted fruits mainly cherry and there were hints of gingersnapp. as you drink it there is fig, carmel, and toasted malt yet it was also bitter sweet on the palate. the finish was a nice tingley and bitter flavor.

swirled around the last bit in the bottle to get all of the sediment up and into the glass for a thick cloudy and textured head. Smells of concord grapes, wheat toast and strawberries. Thick and syrupy to be sure, but not in all the right places. Raisin in the finish.

Pours a dark, translucent, chocolate brown with only a tiny island of bubbles dancing in the center of the snifter and fading to nothing. A swirl of the glass, however, brings a new, thin, tan head back to life with oily trails streaking the glass. A wheat beer with legs... now I’ve seen everything. The nose is a high-octane version of Aventinus, with notes of plum, raisin, bubble gum, cloves, milk chocolate and a solid hit of alcohol. The chocolate hiding in the background, along with the dark fruit aromas makes me think of the Nestlé Chunky Bars we used to get as kids. This candy bar, however, is submerged in a smile-inducing barley wine aroma. Fairly full-bodied, especially for a wheat, the mouthfeel is a bit "gritty" on the tongue with thousands of tiny bubbles dancing a two-step across your taste buds, scrubbing the moisture from your mouth and concluding just slightly boozy. As the label and commercial description both describe, this beer is the already remarkable Aventinus reduced to its intense essence. This is the espresso to your French roast. Deep, dark fruits, bubble gum without its light sweetness, milk chocolate, faint cloves and a peppery alcohol round out the flavor profile. While, overall, I prefer the original Weizen Bock to this brew, sometimes you’re in the mood for an espresso. When that mood strikes, this would be the one to reach for to satisfy that craving.

Bottle. Roasted malt, slight fruit aroma. Flavor was malty, sugary carmel, maybe slight chocolate. Not my type of beer, not great, not horrible.

9/12/07 From the bottle. Aroma is strong plasticy phenols and alcohol forward with some light sour bready malt and some fruit skin character. Appearance is dark tan, hazy, with a good off-white head. Flavor is dark fruit esters forward with strong alcohol and sweet caramel malt. Mouthfeel is creamy with a low carb feel, very warm, with a medium/full body. Overall, very good, and even better when it opens up. 4/8/08 On draught at the Dog & Pony, Renton, Wa. Aroma is alcoholic fruity banana. Appearance is cloudy brown with a good cream white head. Flavor is tangy with sweet true fruit flavors of raspberry and cherry. Mouthfeel is tangy, semisharp, dry and warm. Overall, a bit more complexity and fruitiness than the bottled product.
