wcampbell (567), Central, South Carolina, USA Aug 26, 2007 Updated: Dec 5, 2007Great beer. Sweet plums, raisins, and some wheat in the aroma and flavor. The alcohol is well hidden by the strong sweet flavor. Full bodied, thick, and complex flavor. Dedollewaitor (3622), Odense, Denmark Aug 22, 2007 Brown colour with no head. Aroma & taste is roast caramel, & sweet sugar, wheat, banana. Very sweet. Medium bodied & very warm! Fine experience and I love the aventinus doppelbock so my expectations with this one were probably too high! RiverHorse (454), New Jersey, USA Aug 18, 2007 Pours a deep amber color with a quarter-inch head and little, if any lacing. The scent is very sweet with raisins and alcohol making their prensence known. There was sediment floating in the beer, and settling in the bottom of the Aventinus glass. The taste was unbelievably complex, wheat, malt, raisins, candy, sugar and dried fruits. The mouthfeel was very sweet up front with the alcohol coming through in the back. Grovlam (3790), Copenhagen, Denmark Aug 6, 2007 Bottle @ Ølbaren. Surprisingly large creamy beige head that really lasted. Dark brown color with somewhat clear looking body. Served in the correct Aventinus Weizen Eisbock, that really added to this experience. It was too cold at first, but as it warmed up, the aroma exploded. Wheat, heavy overripe fruit, banana, rye bread, raisins, liquorish and molasses. This was really like a good port wine served in a huge glass. Extremely full bodied with a thick almost oily and light alcoholic texture and a flat carbonation. Heavy sweet flavor. Explosive sweet and lingering finish. Amazing brew, and defiantly the best Eisbock I have tried! BDR (2139), Roseville, Minnesota, USA Aug 5, 2007 Brown color with a hint of amber. Creamy off-white head with flecks of brown sediment. Yeast, light chocolate malts, dark pitted fruits, and a crisp clean aroma that I ice wines. Up front yeast and wheat with a vaguely smoky character I didn’t expect. Plenty of well balanced spices but a definite alcoholic kick in this one. Thick body that’s pleasant on the tongue without being syrupy. Drink4Satan (585), Bristol, Rhode Island, USA Aug 4, 2007 I tried this one directly after the regular Weizen-bock, and I have to say, this one towers over the original in flavour and complexity. The body was much, much chewier and was able to support the intense dark fruity boquet and chocolate flavour much better. It had just as much clove, banana and spice, along with raisins, cardamon, liquorice and molasas. The booze was hidden better than I thought it would be, but it was still definitely there in the finish. BustedFlat (552), Edina, Minnesota, USA Aug 2, 2007 330ml bottle. Mug. Mahogany with a small head. Aroma was raisin, dark fruit and banana. Taste was sweet with dark fruit, licorace and some spiciness. There was a big alcohol bite, which was a bit much for me. It drank more like sweet rum. I prefer the regular Aventinus to this one. shendrix (478), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Jul 30, 2007 Oh my, my, my. Not a daily drinker, but then Christmas is not meant as an everyday occasion either. A beautiful nose of fruits and spices, with a wonderfully complex palate: raisins frolicking with bananas, dates mingling with cloves, sweet apples and light honey. Yes, this is a sweet brew, but the alcohol heat burns through that for a subtly, attractive, sexy, brew.
