TBone (6675), Pori, Finland Jul 27, 2007 Bottled nro 2007/05108 (BB 06/2008)
Served from "Aventinus Weizen Eisbock" -glass at Weisses Bräuhaus, München. Dark nut brown color, steady creamy chestnut-brown head. Aroma has loads of dark fruits like dates, prunes and banana. Mixed with strong alcohol presence. Mouthfeel is smooth, carbonated, sticky. Quite sweet: there is banana and prunes backed with alcohol. Alcohol is not dominating in a bad way but backing up this fruity full-bodied brew. Aftertaste has some licorice. Complex beer for slow drinking and as good as "normal" version. jblendy (518), Midland Park, New Jersey, USA Jul 25, 2007 Pours hazy reddish brown with a large tan head. Overly sweet aroma of alcohol, caramel, raisins, and dark berries. Cheap shot of vodka, mixed with raisins, caramel, and berry flavors. Fairly complex, but the cheap boozy taste out-weighs the flavor and complexity by far. raymondwave (867), Finland Jul 22, 2007 Brownish black with a nice small white thick head. Almost completely opaque like a stout. The nose has raisins, plums, apricots, tar, hay, syrup, alcohol sweetness and some wheat. Flavor is pretty much the same. This could be made from raisins or plums for all I know, it’s like a plum liqour or wine. Too sweet maybe and the alcohol does push thru a bit too much. Leaves a warming sensation on your throat. I like the regular Aventinus over this. This is one of those drinks which you have once and it’s great, but I just rather have the other one. thegreenrooster (1811), St.louis, Missouri, USA Jul 20, 2007 Pour is a great looking muddy brown. Aroma is brown sugar and molasses. Flavor is is dark fruit with molasses, cloves and wheat then POW alcohol. Very powerful but warming and would be great on a very cold winter night. JoeMcPhee (4893), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Jul 18, 2007 Tap at Blind Tiger. Deep brown with a ruby tint. Deep rich aroma, cloves and cardamom, dark chocolate and heavy chocolatey toasted wheat character. Soft rum and plum with a bit of peppery spice as well. Stewed fruit and cinnamon. Very wintery brew. The palate is soft and silky with heavy yeasty spice and lots of rich sweet dried fruits. Dark chocolate, light licorice and prune/raisins. Rummy sweetness. As it warms the peppery alcohol really comes through and starts to detract from the other great fruity/spicy characteristics. The clovey spice and even a touch of smokiness still comes through nicely, but it gets a bit out of balance. I prefer the regular weizenbock to this. thenick (742), North Bellmore, New York, USA Jul 16, 2007 Pours a deep caramel color with a small to nonexistent head. Aroma was of sugar and malt with some fruit notes as well. Taste was the same, a very smooth and great beer for a long winter’s night. wxman (582), O’Fallon, Illinois, USA Jul 16, 2007 Pours the color of a cola and even fizzes up like a cola. Immediately after fizzing, the head completely disappears. Sweet vinous aroma. Tastes of sweet wine, syrup, dried dark fruit, and alcohol. Interesting, in small amounts. garmonbozia (225), Hattiesburg, Mississippi, USA Jul 16, 2007 Thanks to Sprinkle for this awsome beer. What a beautiful beer. Pours a dark burgandy color with no head. Taste was of dried fruit and molases and thick too. Alcohol was right up front also. First Eisbock I’ve had and what a surprise
