Commercial Description:
Aventinus, the Wheat Doppelbock of Bavaria, has always been known to be the most intense and complex wheat beer in the world. This was the case for the past sixty years, but not anymore...
Up until the 1940's, Aventinus was shipped all over Bavaria in containers lacking temperature control. Consequently, the precious drink partially froze during transportation. Unaware that the brew was concentrated by the separation of water from the liquid. People were baffled by this unique version of Aventinus. By chance, the first Aventinus Eisbock was created.
Well aware of this story, Hans Peter Drexler, brewmaster of the Schneider brewery, decided to recreate this classic "mistake" in a modern controlled facility. Thus, the Aventinus Eisbock is reborn sixty years later ... Prost!

11.2oz bottle, labelled 2006. Pours a murky, muddy brown with some little bubbles on the side of the glass. Aroma is wheaty, but not particularly strong. Taste is all Aventinus up front, but then feels heavier and more alcoholic on its way down. Almost warmer. I probably should have prefaced this review by saying that regular Aventinus is one of my favourite beers of all time, so I was practically giddy about trying this one. Flavour is good (well, it would have to be), but I’m not sure it’s necessarily better than regular Aventinus. But it certainly goes down the throat more like hard liquor than a beer.

After the pour the alcohol scent really hit my nose. I couldn’t believe this thing had a whopping 12% ABV. The fruity flavor really hits your nose, and I could smell raisins. Dark fruits and alcohol come to mind when smelling this beer. The beer looks like a dark, dark caramel brown. In fact, the beer deos seem to have a raisin color to it. The head quickly fades away. The alcohol is very noticeable. I get that alcohol burn at the back of my throat. WHOA this is warming me up. Hints of fruit; plums, raisins, grapes in the taste that quickly disappear due to the ABV. The beer is nice and smooth, and not excessively carbonated. The fruity taste hits me with some of the beer, but other parts I get the alcohol burn, a nice mixture actually. Malty goodness that I will probably purchase in the winter months to warm me up. Pretty good beer, with a pretty good taste, ABV, and price tage. Cheers!

Bottle. Dark brown with small long lasting palebrown head. Aroma of malt and small traces of wheat and some banana. Taste again malty with banana and wheat notes in the background. A long aftertaste. Quite heavy alcohol burn. I could drink a lot of these, a nice beer. 240608 tasted again. Same ratings without looking at the old ratings. Very nice beer.

The color was rusty brown with a light beige, fizzy, creamy head. The aroma was wheat, sout, fruity, and earthy. The flavor was sweet malt, earthy, wheat, and alcohol. The palate was medium bodied. The finish was warm and earthy.

Bottle, snifter, big yeasty aroma, with tons of fig and raisin and alcohol. Cloudy dark brown color with a quickly dissapaiting head. Tons of malt flavor, a bit of a burn of alcohol. Not too sweet though and not very cloying either, Pretty damn tasty, I guess its hard to cover up 12%. Was actually suprised by how light the palate was.

Enjoyed this at the pool with my baby over July shutdown. Nose of malty wheat, bananas, and bubblegum. Pours with a lovely cascade that resolves into a hazy copper with a fully lasting stiff, sticky, & creamy beige head that leaves behind light lace. The brew is sweet warm and fruity. A light tartness is present in the middle, and in the finish along with a moderate alcohol bleed. The full body is syrupy, and soft. The finish feels very alcoholic.

33 cL bottle (#061887). Pours hazy brown with a bit of sediment at the bottom of the glass. Very little head, but it was off-white to light brown and crispy when poured. Carbonation keeps working in the glass. Strong dried fruit aroma with dark portwine like notes. Thick mouthfeel. Dark roasted malt, strong raisin flavour into strong sweetness with a solid alcohol base beneath. Slight clove spiced from the middle towards the finish. Long lasting alcohol lifted finish with dried fruits and roasted malt. Very nice, complex flavoured but still very clean and accessible palate.

If you like this style of beer I’m sure you’ll be please with this. I personally found it very good considering I don’t really enjoy Eisbock’s . This was extremely well balanced with a strong fruitiness balanced with a wheat flavor. I wouldn’t go chase another one down, but it was pleasant with a nice high alcohol content.
