Jun 25, 2007 (Picked this up while on vacation in Seattle, WA). Up until about six weeks ago I never knew this existed! Aventinus is one of my favorite beers. I just have to buy it every once in awhile. On top of that I have a strange fascination for EKU28. What could be more interesting than a combination style of both together?!?! Pours VERY cloudy dark beer, the color of dark cola. ZERO head with it. Aroma is much more muted than the "regular strength" Aventinus though the yeasty aroma is there if you swirl your glass to concentrate. Wonderful!!. Surprisingly light body compared to other eisbocks I’ve had, but warming alcohol flavor comes out in the end fairly rapidly. Very clean palate. A minute, or two, after drinking you don’t have anything lingering on your tongue except the previously mentioned warming. Not something I’d be drinking all the time at $6/bottle, but definately something I’d enjoy having as a sipping beer every once in a while. Definately a much more palatable beer than either EKU28 or Samiclaus Enjjoy it if you can get it!!! (Anyone know of a source here in the SF Bay Area?)

Jun 23, 2007 2004 bottle. Dark ruby-brown color, not much head. Rich mix of sweet and spicy aromas, plum, grapeskin, caramel. Full-bodied. Slightly peppery with pit fruit tones, well-balanced between the two. Finish is a tad bit hot, especially for having a few years on the bottle. Still, it goes down easily. A robust, rich sipper.

Jun 20, 2007 2006 bottle pours copper with a short tan head that fades pretty quick. Aromas of bannana, yeast, caramel, and raisin. Flavor is quite sweet with caramel and raisin as well. A good bannana sweetness and plenty of yeast. Smooth body with full sticky sweetness but adequate carbonation to offset it and make the mouthfeel pleasant.

Jun 18, 2007 2006 Bottle #17197, served in a snifter. One finger head, decent retention and a long-lsasting white ring around the edge of the glass. Extremely clear reddish brown color, with a solid yeast cake left firmly cemented to the bottom of the bottle. Malt nose with a hint of raisins & dark ripened fruits. Medium bodied, with carbonation creating the impression of an even more full-bodied beer. Flavor combines sweet malt, modest bitterness and sourness in a robust yet balanced and complex manner. I can feel an almost immediate alcohol warming in the belly, but little or no evidence of the (12%!) alcohol on the tongue. No lacing.

Jun 17, 2007 Bottle. Dark brown-sugar coloring. Light rim foam. Yeasty, sweet, banana-fruity. Similar in taste. Thin, carbonated texture that bubbles to the roof of the mouth. Wheaty, banana flavoring emerges strongly at end.

Jun 17, 2007 This is an old bottle. Not sure if it is at its best. The bottle is numbered as #028374. Bought in Berlin august 2005. The color is nice brown but the head is thin and disappears almost instantly. I can smell some alcohol and dark bred dough. Very good sweet flavor. It is not too over powering considering how strong it is and that it is practically flat (maybe only my bottle?). Caramel, a bit burnt, a hint of chocolate. Lots of bits and pieces in the bottle. I like the normal Aventinus much more that this! High overall score on novelty value.

Jun 16, 2007 Updated: Jun 17, 2007Bottle # 07588, Vintage 2006. Pours a hazy dark amber colour with a small creamy light brown head leaving a good lacing. Aroma of alcohol, caramel, toffee, wheat and toasted malt. The flavour is quite sweet, with alcohol, toasted malt, wheat and yeast, spices, dark fruits and a bitter-sweet dry finish.

Jun 14, 2007 $2.98 (marked down from $4.98) at Tip Top. (I wonder if has been aged by sitting in the store) Pours brown with chunks of yeast floating in the glass. Wonderful malty aroma. Almosty buttery (but not unpleasant like diacetly). I love this aroma. I like this beer much better than the regular aventinus. Low carbonation. Alchohol is reasonably well hidden (and not listed on label). I was suprised to read here it is 12%, so then I start thinking more, and it is certainly noticable at the end of the taste wafting off your tongue. Well balanced with the malty sweetness. Wow, a really great beer. A pleasant surprise. I’m off to Tip Top to get some more of this discount sensation!
