Commercial Description:
Aventinus, the Wheat Doppelbock of Bavaria, has always been known to be the most intense and complex wheat beer in the world. This was the case for the past sixty years, but not anymore...
Up until the 1940's, Aventinus was shipped all over Bavaria in containers lacking temperature control. Consequently, the precious drink partially froze during transportation. Unaware that the brew was concentrated by the separation of water from the liquid. People were baffled by this unique version of Aventinus. By chance, the first Aventinus Eisbock was created.
Well aware of this story, Hans Peter Drexler, brewmaster of the Schneider brewery, decided to recreate this classic "mistake" in a modern controlled facility. Thus, the Aventinus Eisbock is reborn sixty years later ... Prost!

Bottle # 07588, Vintage 2006. Pours a hazy dark amber colour with a small creamy light brown head leaving a good lacing. Aroma of alcohol, caramel, toffee, wheat and toasted malt. The flavour is quite sweet, with alcohol, toasted malt, wheat and yeast, spices, dark fruits and a bitter-sweet dry finish.

$2.98 (marked down from $4.98) at Tip Top. (I wonder if has been aged by sitting in the store) Pours brown with chunks of yeast floating in the glass. Wonderful malty aroma. Almosty buttery (but not unpleasant like diacetly). I love this aroma. I like this beer much better than the regular aventinus. Low carbonation. Alchohol is reasonably well hidden (and not listed on label). I was suprised to read here it is 12%, so then I start thinking more, and it is certainly noticable at the end of the taste wafting off your tongue. Well balanced with the malty sweetness. Wow, a really great beer. A pleasant surprise. I’m off to Tip Top to get some more of this discount sensation!

Bottle at Mondial 07
Appearance: hazed brown with medium creamy white head.
Rich, fruity with hints of cherry. Soft wheat character with huge malty backing.
Full bodied. Clean and smooth alcohol welcomes you at start nicely warming your palate. It blends seamlessly into fruity malty mash. Soft and clan at such strength is commendable. Very nice.

12oz - 2004 - Intense toasted malt and caramel aroma. Raisin, toffee, chocolate and alcohol. Pours deep copper with a small head, decent lacing and tons of floaties even though I poured it carefully. Flavor is fruity raisin, black cherry, plum with a malty chocolate and caramel finish. Palate is sticky and sweet. Alcohol is hidden well but the warmth lets you know it’s there. A very tasty and complex brew.

Pours a red brown with an off white head. Wheat, apples, pears, and sugar on the nose. Taste is sweet with lots of fruit, wheat on the backside which shifts to a taste almost of yellow cake. Alil warm. Very good.

Bottle. 2005 vintage. Pours deep rich brown. Quite viscous looking. Very thin white head. Odd aroma: blackstrap molasses and motor oil with a hint of alcohol. Oily on the palate. Quite vinous and alcohol-y tasting. Notes of raisins, dates, malt, yeast. Finishes surprisingly dry and boozy.

Bottle at Mondial de la Bière (Montréal). Dark brown body topped with a lasting beige foamy head. Complex aroma and taste that carry fruity and yeasty hints. Texture is smooth and finish is warming. Very similar to the Doppelbock. Awesome!
