beachbum25 (778), Powellville, Maryland, USA May 26, 2007 11.2 oz bottle-Dated 2004-Bottle # 24667. Trade w/DragonStout. Had no idea this was a "vintage" bottle until I went to enter this rating. Dark mahogany color w/absolutely no head but great lacing. Sweet roasted malt aroma. Big, full, rich flavor of roasted malt, cane sugar/molasis, almonds, & caramel. Traces of dark fruit & plum. Very malty, very complex. Good carbination. Long malt finish, alcohol is evedent, but not overwelming. Thanks for the trade! BeerBiker (1384), Odense, Denmark May 25, 2007 [Tasted with Troels in Tvolm east.]
Wow, I think I’ve changed Troels’ point of view to beers. This is indeed a complex and "strange" beer. Never tasted something like that. Eis-weiss-doppel-bock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Aroma of port, wheat, nuts, caramel, vanilla in a wonderful look of a great huge brownbeige head in a muddy dark look. Mouthfeel intense with similar notes plus huge concentrated fluid of fruit and carbonation. Only a little alcoholic. Excellent warming finish. A true winterwarmer!
kreepindeth (405), Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA May 24, 2007 Muddy brown color. Intense malty and alcohol aroma with some mild wheat funk. Mouthfeel is thick and malty with some alcohol present. No hops to be found here. Very sweet as well. Alarming at first but gets better with every sip! emacgee (1859), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA May 22, 2007 Updated: Feb 19, 2008Poured a ruddy brown that showed red in the light. The head is thin, medium, frothy, and light brown. The aroma shows some definite wheat, sweet, alcohol, has a faint sourness, a slight saison quality, and mellowed dark fruit. The flavor shows alcohol, but well masked for 12%, mellowed dark fruit, earthynes, also a slight saison quality. The palate is dry and very mellow. The finish warmed my stomach. I liked this one a lot more than Kulmbacher’s. SudsMcDuff (1691), was CapeTown,SA-now Houston, Texas, USA May 21, 2007 jesus h christ ..this beer has got a bite... a bit thin...pours a nice big head, low lacing...quite tart, with a sweet warming kick...batch 2006...has a strong wheat library...this is a big beer, but the thinness and appearance lower it to just average.. needs to be more ...syrupy? ...but i have wanted this for a while and am not sorry i got it..if i had a cellar i would buy a few!!! gunnfryd (3539), Kristiansand, Norway May 20, 2007 Bottle. Red black colour with a beige head. Aroma is roasted, alcohol, sweet, malt, vanilla. Flavour is sweet, alcohol, hop, vanilla, roasted, fruit. Nice beer. polomagnifico (532), Saginaw, Michigan, USA May 19, 2007 11.2oz bottle, $3.49. Intense aroma of fruity malt. Notes of raisin, plum, pear, pineapple, and bananas. Average sized, off-white head that fully diminished and left no lace. Murky dark brown body that’s thick with huge particles. Flavor is heavy sweet and moderately bitter with a long finish. Palate is full bodied and oily. Flat carbonation with a moderate alcohol feel. Wow, what a brew. Intense describes this beer best. Heavy on the fruity malts and a hint of sushi in the flavor. The sediment was a bit much. Lot’s and lot’s of huge particles in this beer. Great alcohol content, I’d highly recommend. Zinister (1199), Houston, Texas, USA May 17, 2007 2006/04391. Dirty brown with not much head. Nose of raisins, bananas, yeasty aromas and cloves. Taste was a nice complement of dark fruits, bananas, cloves and bread. Medium bodied with a nice creamy finish, however it is a bit acidic.
