maltdog (510), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA May 14, 2007 FWIW, bottle #066137. All I can tell from a visual bottle inspection is that it’s dark, and it contains a jagged landscape of flocc reaching to an inch in places. In the glass, mysteriously red with pinkish hues, chunky with floaties, and zero head. Enticing and varied aromatics of rich licorice and vanilla; also floral (violets and mock orange) and faintly smoky. English barleywinelike flavors: figgy and raisiny, cola, hints of chocolate, tobacco, and leather. Noticeably, but not unpleasant, tarry character. Peppery and exotic. Obvious ethanol mesmerizes with its complex quality… comfortable as flannel, yet as urgently alive as arcing plasma. Rich and buttery palate, almost waxy. Bittersweet aftertaste; funky herbality suggest Mr Pibb soda. Overall, stunning. Decadent and incredible. Thick with flavor and alcohol, compares favorably to aged dark rum. nearbeer (1833), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA May 12, 2007 Updated: Jan 29, 2009Bottle no. 2005-08519. Dark brown with a huge head that immediately fizzes away. Aromas of alcohol, chocolate toffee and dark fruit. Sweet flavors of raisin cake with icing, slight chocolate and caramel are balanced well by alcohol and some dryness on the finish. Tastes like a good Belgian strong. Palate is chewy, mostly smooth and has a nice alcohol and carbonation tingle. Very nice. shp555 (1678), Atlanta, Georgia, USA May 10, 2007 Pours a deep amber brown color with a white head. Aroma is malty, banana, and clove. Flavor is lots of wheat, banana, cloves, and some spices. joshwilfong (771), Cleveland, Ohio, USA May 9, 2007 huge white head with a dark brown appearance. dopplebocks have always been strange to me, it feels as though the maltyness overshadows the wheat flavor and vice versa. this is good, a subtle wheat flavor with some malty undertones. the high rating surprised me, but maybe i’m just not a fan of the style ucusty (1871), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA May 8, 2007 Updated: Aug 21, 2007This is a beer that has a strong caramel type flavor with strong hint of alcohol. the only problem with this beer is all the floaties. Only place I have been able to find this is at peace st mkt and sams at in durham
My goto beer!!! yngwie (4880), Kristiansand, Norway May 6, 2007 Bottle. It pours a clear, deep copper with a beige head. Generous amounts of malt, alcohol and dried fruits in the aroma. Warming alcohol, lots of malt and dried fruits in the flavor as well. Full body. A long warming finish with loads of malt, dried fruits and a good dash of alcohol ends the experience. A truly wonderful bock. Gimme more! (070427) frink (467), coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada May 4, 2007 Pours a dark brown with a white head. Aromas of bananasand dark fruits, some alcohol in the nose.Wow for a 12% beer this not what I was expecting. The alcohol is very well concealed. Big bold flavoura abound, banana, clove, cherries, bread, sweet thick malt stucture with only a finishing touch of alcohol. Top noch. MrBendo (1039), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA May 3, 2007 Thanks to Brock Landers for the bottle. Pours a deep, murky brown with a medium head. Little retention with no lacing. Aroma was dark fruit, brown sugar, toffee and a bit of bananas. Raisins, toffee and wheat in the taste. A bit of heat. Full body. Sticky texture. Long, sweet finish. Very good.
