Aventinus, the Wheat Doppelbock of Bavaria, has always been known to be the most intense and complex wheat beer in the world. This was the case for the past sixty years, but not anymore...
Up until the 1940’s, Aventinus was shipped all over Bavaria in containers lacking temperature control. Consequently, the precious drink partially froze during transportation. Unaware that the brew was concentrated by the separation of water from the liquid. People were baffled by this unique version of Aventinus. By chance, the first Aventinus Eisbock was created.
Well aware of this story, Hans Peter Drexler, brewmaster of the Schneider brewery, decided to recreate this classic "mistake" in a modern controlled facility. Thus, the Aventinus Eisbock is reborn sixty years later ... Prost!

A bit rougher than the normal Aventinus. It has the banana aroma and dense malty taste, and more of the intense sweet raisin flavor. The alcohol is still pretty well buried under all the heavy flavors and smells even though it’s like two beers crammed in one bottle. Overall I’d take the regular Aventinus but I certainly would not turn one of these down.

APARIENCIA: de color marrón intenso, algunos destellos cobrizos a contraluz; corona de espuma color marfil de baja retención, de burbujas compactas y algunas abiertas que desaparece rápido. AROMA: muy licorosa, caramelo, azúcares no procesados, frutos oscuros como hígos, dátiles, se llega a inhalar y exhalar el alcohol. SABOR: complejo, las notas de frutos oscuros muy maduros como dátiles, hígos se combina bien con las notas de caramelo y azúcares sin procesar, además se siente el alcohol algo intenso, pero no llega a ser agresivo; el retrogusto queda un amargor ligero, seco y no astringente, sensación cálida en garganta por el alcohol. SENSACIÓN: cuerpo medio, carbonatación media baja. RESUMEN: Una buena cerveza de acuerdo al estilo.

Bottle at Beer Time in Athens (€ 7.20). BB 03.30.2020. Pours light brown with light beige fizzy head. Disappears rather fast. The nose is malty and hard liqueury, spiced raisins. Tastes heavy malty sweet and brown liqueur but I’m not saying too boozy - the 12% is rather well disguised. Thin fizzy carbonation. Medium body. Really nice and doppelbocky - far from the other two Eisbocks I’ve had. Lovely stuff, would love to have it again some time.

Bottle. Brown colored with a red hue, hazy and with a fine rocky tan head. Nice wheat aroma with banana and a spices, vanilla and glove. Light caramel notes a slight hint of pepper. Full bodied and thick with medium carbonation and a nice alcoholic warmth. Very smooth mouthfeel. Light sweet taste, dry bitter finish with spicy note. Flavor is complex, spices, banana and caramel, the pepper is growing quite strong till the end. Very well balanced flavor, distinct yet harmonic. Leaves a medium dry finish. Good and intense.

Aromat intensywny, słodki, banany, śliwki, karmel, toffi, cynamon, rodzynki, ciemne pieczywo, alkohol. Kolor ciemnobrązowy, mętne. Piana kremowa, średniopęcherzykowa, niezbyt obfita, średnio trwała. W smaku pełne, gęste, słodkie, suszone owoce, zboże, czekolada, karmel, toffi, alkohol nie dominuje, lekko rozgrzewa. Goryczka średnia, wysycenie średnie.

My first Eisbock. Also by far the strongest beer I had until now. The experience is intense! Dark brown with little tan head. Aroma: Marzipan, clove, banana, and much more, that I have a hard time to describe. Taste: Overwhelming... Almost a little too much of everything. Sweetness was the foremost. Also a considerable amount of alcohol warmth. But less direct than this sounds.-- Comparing this directly with the Aventinus: much less hops, much more sweetness. But also the expected more of everything. Aventinus almost tastes like water compared to this :P.

Une eisbock de la catégorie weizen eisbock, d’un niveau abv superbe de 12 %. Malt d’orge et de froment, refermentée. Mon exemplaire portait la jolie date limite d’octobre 2020, mais il n’a pu attendre … moi non plus !! Couleur brun roux auburn à l’opacité importante, avec un léger voile de levure tendre. Bulles fines principalement en fontaine centrale vive, mais présentes partout. Mousse beige clair, pétillante au versage, puis joli nappage très soyeux de 2 mm. Arômes de vin rouge , fût de vin de Bourgogne, pointe de fruits rouges, levure. 1ère bouche veloutée à la superbe entame vineuse, riche, dense, complexe. Arrière-bouche d’une qualité magistrale. 2ème au sublime ensemble vin/fruits/bois. Arrière-bouche d’un vin de haut vol. 3ème à la texture magnifique, et aux superbes équilibre et harmonie. Arrière-bouche à la grande finesse de goût, avec une densité de la texture. Longueur au généreux développement tous azimuts : richesse, finesse, plénitude. Jambes fines, serrées, groupées. Levure fine, fruitée, très grande ligne. Alcool qui fait un prodigieux travail de chef d’orchestre. Finale … comment dire … divine !! CONCLUSION : voici un 5 incontestable pour l’Allemagne et la Bavière en particulier. Une bière purement et strictement « classique », comme les rocks classiques de radio 21 ...

Tap at Bad flash bar.Hazy brown colour with huge creamy head. Aroma of yeasts, banana. Taste of banana, yeasts, koriander,pepper,spicy,caramel sweetness. Feeling of higher % of alcohol.

caramel, bread, chocolate, leaves, banana, alcohol, brown, cloudy, frothy, white foam, medium sweetness, lightly bitter, lightly sour, medium body, sticky, average carbonation, bitter Reddish brown with off white foam. Not much for lacing, but the legs of beer itself clings to side of glass. Dark fruit, mostly black banana, with dark cocoa and a bit of alcohol. Taste balance is toward the sweet side, and a bit of sour is present from the wheat. Sticky mouthfeel despite carbonation. Finishes bitter sweet, and lingers.
