COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Aventinus, the Wheat Doppelbock of Bavaria, has always been known to be the most intense and complex wheat beer in the world. This was the case for the past sixty years, but not anymore...
Up until the 1940’s, Aventinus was shipped all over Bavaria in containers lacking temperature control. Consequently, the precious drink partially froze during transportation. Unaware that the brew was concentrated by the separation of water from the liquid. People were baffled by this unique version of Aventinus. By chance, the first Aventinus Eisbock was created.
Well aware of this story, Hans Peter Drexler, brewmaster of the Schneider brewery, decided to recreate this classic "mistake" in a modern controlled facility. Thus, the Aventinus Eisbock is reborn sixty years later ... Prost!

Deep, dark, mahogany in color with a short lived, tan head. MONSTER AROMA of rich fruit cake, molasses and a touch of booze. The flavor is intense in a umami kind of way. Light alcohol, dark sugary molasses, dates, and figs. The carbonation is enough to keep this beer feeling relatively light and quite drinkable. I keep thinking that a pot roast with brown gravy would be sublime with this. What a superb drinking experience. I can only imagine this fresh.

330ml bottle poured into a chalice A: Pours a hazy amber to brown color with a small bubbled head which dissipates leaving not may lacings. Dirty, with some wheat floating around S: Very good smell. Very fruity (plums and grapes) and sweet. Strong smell of caramel malts and some yeasts. "Liqueurous" and alcoholic end T: Complex like the nose: Very sweet and fruity upfront (dark fruits). Very strong taste of malts and wheat. "Liqueurous" and alcoholic end with a nice hop sting M: Heavy creamy body. Reasonable carbonation to the style. Nice bitterness D: Good but quite strong. Lovely beer after all. Schneider quality [ BA Review @ 9/13/2010 ]

Had some friends over and had a good-beer splitting night. Man is this an ugly beer. The suspended lees in the beer make it a cloudy grey brown, and I wasn’t particularly rough with the bottle. The nose is all sugar. Raisins, and syrup, and sweet malt. Doesn’t bode well. Taste is all sweetness and malt, but mostly sweet. Sugar, syrup and some roasted malt. As much as I appreciate a sweeter, richer beer (Gouden Carolus Cuvee Van De Keizer comes to mind.) this beer just a little to cloying for me.

Dirty dark brown with creamy yellow foam. Rich aroma of prunes, malt blocks, liquorice and dunkelweizen. The taste is malty with a lot of alcohol, associations to wine, juniper berries, prunes and wood. The palate and mouth-feel is rich and complex, some fizzy rock candy shows up early in the aftertaste. Very rich and complex beer - most likely the best I have ever tasted.

Pours a large beige-gray creamy head, very persistent; hazy opaque dark brown, super murky-muddy colour, same as reg. aventinus but deeper. Smells, wow: raisins, blueberry, clove, plums, wheat, cake (torta paesana), milk chocolate. Just imagine a "Boero", the chocolate with the boozy cherry inside, it’s really that nasty. Tastes dried/dark fruits, cake, chocolatey, vanilla, it’s like having a dessert in your mouth. Medium to high sweetness, with really none bitter note. Soft carbonation, oily-creamy consistency, light alcoholic and warming touch. What’s incredible it’s how easy it actually goes down, especially for being 12%vol. For any Aventinus, or wheat beer fan, this would be the ultimate tasting experience. A quite outstanding brew!!
